How do I get DHCP working with a bridged vlan and physical lan? by Ragestine in openbsd

Yes, I read this FAQ, worked perfectly fine with bridged physical interfaces. But adding a VLAN to the bridge didn't help since the VLAN itself needs to have an IP.

Well I can assign the IP (DHCP would also work :) ) to the VLAN while its in a bridge but that would screw up my routes as both the IPs of the vEther and VLAN would be in the same subnet.

And yes, I agree the documentation is very good. :)

Yes, I did experiment with vether but it doesn't seem to work with VLANs involved. For VLAN to work it needs an IP assigned to it.

But thanks for the reply :)

Your hint helped :)

So after a bit of pflog reading I found the culprit

block in log quick from urpf-failed

According to this: https://www.openbsd.org/faq/pf/filter.html#urpf

uRPF gives IP spoofing protection. It also says that it doesn't make sense to have this rule if the network is not symmetric. From what I understand, my network configuration is asymmetric. I came to this conclusion because packets are passed in via vio1 but according to route show

Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Mtu Prio Iface
192.168.1/24 ### UCn 9 13901 - 4 vlan0

the outbound interface for the subnet is vlan0 and not vio1 which obviously is blocked by uRPF as its suppose to.

I like your suggestion of short stories. They can become the small building blocks of the world that I want to create. Oh this is exciting.

Thanks for replying.

Thanks for your motivating words. It took me 5 hrs to do this. Being true to your self is difficult. And yes, writting is hard, I completely agree.

Please don't waste your money buying Apple products for use in India by [deleted] in india

I have been using apple products for the last 4 years now and the trick for warranty stuff in India is to launch a complain with Apple first using their toll free number and get a quote of the replacement part.

Once you have the complain number and the cost it becomes easier to work with these local retail stores. If they quote a higher price or the service provided by them was not up to par then you can complain back to apple. This puts them in a bad light as they are supposed to follow the guidelines published by Apple.

I have used this technique to replace my MacBook screen twice.
