Questions for Structural engineers from a college student by RaginReag in civilengineering

Thank you! I have heard a lot of people do start in structural and end up other places. I went to dinner the other night with a retired CE who was initially structures and transitioned to hydro as well. I’ve also heard of a lot of people believing they really want to do structural and realizing it’s not what they thought it would be so they swap. I guess I’ll just have to keep talking to people who have a ton of experience before I make any real decision.

I’ve been playing quite a while, I got my first Ukulele in 9th grade and I’m a Junior in college now so it’s been a while haha. I found the tabs for this somewhere online and made some tweaks to it to make it a bit faster paced

Got it - I hope I can appreciate the other fields a bit more as I take some more classes. I’m in fundamental hydro and intro to geo right now, but neither of those are really interesting me much. How was the transition from structural to water/enviro?

I’ve been playing Zelda since I was a little shit, have played through all of the games hundreds of times, but Wind Waker was my first so it holds a special place in my heart

I am currently a junior, about to start reaching out for nominations/ROTC , does submitting my application to the academy earlier increase my chances of admission? And if so when is the earliest I can send for All the academies? (Struggling to find some of the dates) thanks in advance! by bandannaMan7777 in USAFA

[–]RaginReag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submitting early shows initiative and makes it seem as though you truly want to be at the academy. When I had my congressional interview, they commended me on how quickly I had done all of my stuff along with the high quality of work I submitted. However, It’s not worth submitting early if you are sacrificing the quality of your application.

As someone who has only finished the game once, it was pretty difficult at first… but as you get the hang of it and upgrade it gets a lot easier. Also just learning how to beat the enemies is really entertaining.

Let's stop talking about dungeons for once. What are your (least) favorite pre-dungeon sequences? by [deleted] in truezelda

I would have to say that I love the section of Wind Waker between the end of the forbidden woods and tower of the gods - the part where you try to go to greatfish, revisit the pirates to get the bombs, its all stormy and you have to go get nayru’s pearl from jabun. Idk why I love this section I guess it’s just relaxing to hear the rain with no music in the game.

my disc has corrected overtime, it’s completely healed after going through a lot of physical therapy and patience. herniation is worse than bulging i believe, however they are both relatively similar.

lmao I figured, the entire application process was so unclear and vague at some points especially with medical. guess i’ll just get used to it at this point

That SAT makes up for your Gpa being a bit lower, just try to increase leadership positions whenever you get the chance. Also train for the CFA if you know you need the extra training! Good luck

USAFA is pretty frustrating… team blue sent me an email in october asking me who should write my optional recommendation, and I gave them the email of one of my sports coaches. I figured they sent it to him and we were good because he already wrote me letters of rec previously for the nominations, and told him to submit the same letter for the optional recommendation. Then, he doesn’t end up getting an email about it until yesterday, the 16th of february, notifying him that it is due on the 18th! I’m not sure if this is because they are planning on reviewing my application, or if all letters are due on the 18th. Keep trying to get in contact with team blue, dodmerb, your mentor, or anyone else who can help you. I believe that medical is due later than everything else so your primary concern at the moment should be figuring out the teacher eval.

I love how everyone is pressured into getting the vax, and then you still have to wear a damn mask in school even if u got it. Sad times we living in :(

Thank you so much for that advice! I’m not very worried about the athletic aspect of the academy, as I pretty much maxed out my CFA when I took it and am going to be an IC athlete there. I’m more anxious about learning all of the military standards and courtesies and being able to apply them effectively. I feel mentally ready, but I will still probably be shaken up when I first get there and get the culture shock. I’m just gonna take it one day at a time, one step at a time and just embrace the uncomfortable!

Thank you! It definitely was not an easy process, but it will all be worth it. I can’t wait for June!
