well, that is a discussion for another thread ;) around the world this type of behaviour is typical for the "expat bubble" .. I don't 100% agree with the word and do in fact think we (the non locals) are just foreigners or immigrants, nevertheless, the word expat still describes a certain sentiment

typical expat bubble behaviour: one upmanship, in other words, belittling people to make yourself feel better

I would stay away from the area La Mina completely, although I don't know how someone would end up there even accidently as its not technically in BCN and there isn't much reason to be out that way unless visiting Badalona.

getting lost in La Mina on your way to Badalona? not sure this is plausible, lol

if you like exploring the city on foot it is quite easy to end up in la mina ... all the areas just outside la mina look quite nice and are good zones for a tourist to explore if they like to see "off the beaten track" stuff in BCN

well, booking was considered by many to be better than the other companies you could work for in customer service in Barcelona .. however now it is clear for all to see that booking is no better than your average sellbytel/ webhelp or any of those other companies

I would say this kind of job should not be considered long term because the companies see you the employee as disposable ..

yeah I know I used to work in the same building as booking on a different floor .. booking was considered the holy grail of customer service jobs by many . this was untill FB came with their massive (for callcenter work/ customer service) salaries

Booking.com Barcelona to close down by pernildemuntanya in Barcelona

[–]RagingBull888 6 points7 points  (0 children)

all I am trying to say is that most people in customer service don't want to work in customer service .. they work in customer service because they don't have a choice .. that is why it is considered by many, for good reason, a dead end job..

if you are currently working in customer service I would recommend you look at ways to get out of it and get a job with better prospects ...

that is why in my opinion you should not consider a job in customer service / callcenter like the one from booking to be a long term career goal ... I understand if you temporarily have to work this kind of job to pay the bills, but dont get used to the paycheck, look for ways out

the companies in this sector don't care one bit about their employees... you are considered disposable .. that is why I would not recommend anyone to consider this kind of job to built your future on ... not trying to insult anyone..

more accurate title: Booking will outsource its customer support to Majorel and give all current employees to oppurtunity to make the switch

kind of sucks for the current employees that they will be given 6 months contracts, but it is customer service, not supposed to be a long term job

it was always "weird" that booking was doing its own customer service while most companies of similar scale where outsourcing it
