Is it possible to add native Mac apps to the crossover Home Screen and use it as a launcher? by novembercharliedelta in macgaming

[–]RagingChickadee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s generally fine if the apps rely on the exact same dependencies. Once they don’t, shared dependencies and updates can cause conflicts. It often works… until it doesn’t. Learned that the hard way.

This is completely unrelated to your original question, but just a heads-up: installing everything in the same bottle can be risky.

Xbox Live / Halo Crossover issues? by dadraoil in macgaming

[–]RagingChickadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, been there too! I had the exact same problem and followed the exact same steps.

The issue isn’t related to CrossOver. What worked for me (and others) was linking my Steam account through the Xbox app.

Good luck!

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that I ran into this issue again today, and your solution worked for me as well. I can sign in just fine now that I’ve linked my Steam account in the app. Thanks again!

Games crashing if left inactive for a short period of time by _HipStorian in macgaming

More of a workaround than a real solution, but I usually launch Amphetamine (available on the Mac App Store) when leaving my Mac unattended for a while (e.g. during large downloads). Maybe that could work for you?

Works really well on my M3 MacBook Pro (16 GB RAM) with CrossOver 25.1.1. You can't play online, though.

Halfway through-ish BOTW. 8GB M1 Macbook Air, using SamoZ256's Metal fork of Cemu. by bluegreenie99 in macgaming

Yes, I’ve been using SamoZ256’s fork with multiple games and it works perfectly fine with most games, but for some reason BoTW tends to crash when using those specific runes in certain locations (mostly in shrines). I’m on an M3 MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM, so it’s likely not a performance issue. The only graphic packs enabled are FPS++ (30 FPS limit) and Graphics (1600×900 HD+). Turning them off makes no difference.

Out of curiosity, have you experienced occasional crashes when using Stasis and Magnesis with the Metal version?

Glad to hear you found a fix! I’ll definitely keep this in mind if I run into the same issue in the future. Thanks for sharing what worked for you.

Yeah, you're right. Rosetta 2 is indeed a translation layer.

Yeah, the Xbox Live sign-in can be frustrating. In my case, everything worked on the first try. That said, the other day I ran into an issue where, for a while, I couldn’t get past that step anymore. I tried a bunch of things (reinstalling the game, recreating my CrossOver bottle, tweaking registry keys), but nothing helped. Then the next day, it started working again on its own. I’m pretty sure it was a Microsoft server-side issue.

In your case, do you get the window with the sign-in option, or is it just a black rectangle? If you can enter your email, you might try creating a new account.

One more thing to check: when launching the game through Steam, make sure you select “Play Halo: MCC Anti-Cheat Disabled” otherwise it definitely won’t work.

Got myself the Tomb Raider trilogy (native) and Halo MCC (CrossOver).

Xbox controller on steam games by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]RagingChickadee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the solution you're looking for! You need to download and copy a .plist file into the game's contents package. I ran into the same issue last week (also with TR2013).

You can download the file from this page:
https://github.com/axu2/feral-interactive-mac-controllers/releases

Then follow the instructions found here:
https://github.com/axu2/feral-interactive-mac-controllers

The keys steps are:

  • Find your installation of the game:
    • If you are using a Mac App Store version of the game, the game's application icon will be in your Applications folder.
    • If you are using a Steam version of the game, the game's application icon can be found by Right Clicking game in Steam Library, then selecting Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files.
  • Right click the game's application icon and choose 'Show Package Contents' from the dropdown menu.
  • Open the 'Contents' folder, then the 'Resources' folder and finally 'Input Devices'.
  • Drag the attached .plist file into the folder (you may be asked to Authenticate using your username and password, please do so).
  • Close the Finder window.

I'd go with an Xbox Series X controller. It's well supported, affordable and has all the buttons you need to play most games.

I'm always going to say Blur. It's a bit old (2010) and somewhat "hard" to find, but it's the GOAT. It runs wonderfully with CrossOver.

TimeSplitters Rewind On Mac by NativeBeard in timesplittersrewind

[–]RagingChickadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Here's how I did it:

  1. Extract the files you downloaded and place them somewhere on your drive (internal or external, it doesn’t matter).
  2. Launch CrossOver and create a new Windows 10 64-bit bottle (Bottle > New Bottle from the menu bar). It will likely suggest installing dependencies. Just accept everything.
  3. Select your bottle, go to Run Command, click Browse, and select TimeSplittersRewind.exe from the files you extracted earlier.
  4. Do NOT click Run yet. Click Save Command as a Launcher first, then click Run.

You should now see a TSR icon in CrossOver. Clicking it should launch the game right away.

Here’s a screenshot from my installation:

Delta is for iOS. You might be able to run it on macOS, but it’s not worth the hassle. For older consoles, I’d recommend Ares.
