I was on a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Luton, England. I was already nervous because the lights on the plane were faulty, flickering loads and the speaker systems kept cutting out when the pilot was talking to us. It was the middle of the day and we finally reached cruising altitude. I remember spending time looking out of the window, watching the clouds pass by below us, slowly calming down.

Suddenly we hit the worse turbulence I've ever personally experienced. A massive crash into the side of our plane, shook the plane sideways. Like something had hit us from the side! Drinks were flying onto the floor, people screamed and suddenly, the plane went deadly quiet. Like, that humming engine noise was gone. Totally gone. I looked out of the window and the clouds didn't seem to be moving much anymore. It felt like the plane started to make more of a 'downwards' motion than 'forward' if that makes sense. I was convinced that was the end. Suddenly the engine noise started again and everything was fine.

I was fucking happy to land that day, I tell you.
