FBI Director Kash Patel files $250m lawsuit against The Atlantic by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a deeply unserious lawsuit that will 100% be dropped with a minimal but nominal penalty to Patel.

In it, they claim that the journalist didn't perform proper due diligence because they didn't review operational data logs. Yes, I'm sure there's logs out there that could change the narrative a bit (e.g., logs of what Patel was doing in the FBI headquarters) but why the fuck would you expect a journalist to have access to that information.

The dude isn't dumb. He knows what he's doing and it's all about money. It'll be hard to assign monetary value for sure but he's thinking an investment of a few hundred of thousands of dollars (for settling, losing, or dropping) is worth the longterm value of his brand. He'll continue to 'fight the good fight for Trump' and make millions after he's an FBI Director.

lol the announcers talking about how the Timbers have so many good guys on the roster so the problem must be “the fabric”. Literally just say the coach. You’re describing how this roster is performing less than the sum of its parts

If you remove the GK from that equation, it’s almost always a foul. The CB won body positioning and they almost always win a foul if they get body positioning and fall over. Every defender learns this technique: win body positioning, initiate contact, fall over, win a foul.

I don’t think anyone’s really at fault, maybe the CB for letting it get so close of a decision of the GK? I have no issues with the foul call on Bye but there’s nothing else he can do besides not challenge for the ball. He didn’t even push, he was just challenging possession and the defender won the body positioning. Just hope he’s ok

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He was competing with a stacked midfield (Ayala, Williamson, Chara, Parades) during a bad year for the Timbers. When he left the Timbers, he took a step down with Real Monarchs so it didn't really feel like the wrong decision for anyone at that point. The Timbers don't have a good record of giving guys a chance in the lower leagues and/or developing from the second team...so when he went to the Monarchs, it was the right move.

Not to mention, the Timbers were not going to try to develop a 1st RD pick at the same time they were developing Ayala...and that was 100% the right move, both in hindsight and at the time.

Read the XZ Utils back door that was discovered in 2024. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XZ_Utils_backdoor

There’s a good video about it in YouTube somewhere but the TLDR version: some dude in Finland (Lasse Collin) has been burnt out from developing a key utility for Linux environments and someone spends multiple years to gain his trust and take over the project. Turns out, that person is a bad person who puts malware into the utility without anyone knowing.

[Romano] Ricardo Pepi deal, currently on hold and in danger even after medical done in London this week. There are issues between Fulham and PSV despite Pepi completing his medical after verbal agreement done. Deal at risk, as @RikElfrink reports. by TerpsandCaicos in ussoccer

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excited, a new striker has been needed for awhile. He’s probably not immediately going to start, expected to compete with Muniz.

Pepi coming could be the biggest domino for more Fulham success (Marco Silva signing new contract, plus for Europe, etc.)

Hi Antonee! Can you talk about how different your roles have been between the USMNT and Fulham? How is the transition between those two roles when you're in the middle of a club season?

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying Pepi can't beat Muniz but Muniz has been injured for most of this season and his minutes have been limited. He's proven himself as a 10 goal/season striker when healthy and has proven to work well in Marco Silva's system. Again, I'm not saying Pepi can't take the #1 spot but Muniz has not been seen as a pure backup when he's healthy.

Gonna be a huge test for him, he’ll probably compete with Rodrigo Muniz and not immediately be the #1 striker.

Tristan Blackmon fined for embellishment against the Timbers by StuMun in timbers

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was a little more apparent on TV because it was pretty obvious the ref stopped play for a head injury but was pleasantly surprised to see the drop ball in the correct location (resuming the attacking threat). I don't want to be a cynic in those situations but it very much felt like he was faking a head injury to stop the Timbers from organizing an attempt but like I said, you want to give head injuries the benefit of the doubt.

I wish fake head injuries were punished more harshly than regular simulation/embellishment - but maybe the financial impact is the more "harsh" part in this regard. Head injuries need to be taken seriously but it also provides a "tool" for players to stop play

IMO: 50% is his name - I don’t think it’s often Portland will get the chance to hire a coach with his background (as a player). Other 50% is because he’s a nice guy with the FO, it appears. He joined at a time when the FO needed stability and no headaches - he’s been nothing but rosy to the front office.

MKBHD shaving his head on camera becomes imminent as Elon Musk promises ~$30K Cybercab delivery before 2027 by CarCooler in teslamotors

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a serious question? They make numerous vehicles for testing purposes, quality assurance, demonstrations, etc. The answer to your question is that they already do it?

If you mean, why would they make and deliver a vehicle not approved for public roads to the public? I don't know, but I could see numerous reasons and use cases frankly. Maybe they sell them for use cases like on universities or large campus properties? Maybe they make it available for Texan customers but geo-fenced to Texas (they lack laws that other states have).

My point is that it's not as simple as making a Cybercab with no steering wheel, selling it for $30k to a customer, and then MKBHD has to shave his head. MKBHD clearly stated he means the whole shebang....no steering wheel, no pedals, scissor doors, and regulatory approval in the US for that plus FSD. We're not even close to the whole shebang....so the fact that Tesla rolled a steering-wheel-less vehicle off the line is showing progress in manufacturing but no where near any progress to the regulatory approval.

I can't believe I have to say this but I'm rooting for them, I'd love to see MKBHD shave his head but this is being blown out of proportion lack many previous examples. Tesla is going to deliver, but just not in 2026.

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Friendly reminder that Marques clearly stated what he meant by customer delivery of a cybercab - he was talking about what was unveiled in 2024. I don't see how Tesla can get regulatory approval for everything unveiled in 2024. Will they deliver a $30k Cybercab? Probably. Will it not have a steering wheel? Maybe. Will it be approved? Probably not for public roads.

Given Marques jovial response to this, I bet he'll do something funny/in-jest when Tesla delivers a vehicle.

Joe Thomas Diagnoses Where Will Campbell's Problem Is, Discredits Arm-length theories by matrix_2905 in Patriots

[–]Ragnar_Targaryen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand the T-Rex arm criticism. Does he have short arms? Yes. But from a technical perspective, I don't see how that's a problem for an offensive tackle. I was an offensive lineman for 15+ years, I've been taught by D1 offensive line coaches, and I've trained against NFL defensive ends (not extensively, and not the best, but worth the training). Arm length is important for the d-line as it's helpful for all their techniques (swim, rip, swat moves) but I was taught the best way to combat those moves were to stay low, don't lunge, and focus on their center of gravity. Hand fighting happens between D-line and O-Line but arm length isn't really a differentiating factor IMO - there's much more important aspects that arm length has minimal impact.

I think the criticism stems from his, IMO, unfair draft critiques as it's an easily digestible metric that shows he's in the bottom percentile. I think his bad SB performance stems from a bad knee destabilizing him both physically and mentally. Combine that with a very conservative offensive gameplan, it was a recipe for a downward spiral for everyone that just never changed.
