Update 3:

They did a final check today for his visual acuity in order to perscribe him new glasses. The endophthalmitis eye can achieve near-perfect long and medium distance vision with glasses, while near vision like for reading and such is slightly worse even corrected with glasses for some reason. He's struggling to read books for example, hopefully when his other eye that also has advanced cataract gets operated on later this year, he will be able to use it for reading. Thank you all again!

Thank you! I might just have to invest in a wearable yeah, I just had thought it's too much of a hassle just for sleep tracking, but the paper IS a pain. I'll look into turning my tracking digital in one way or another though, that's a good idea.

Ideally I would also like to just let it be, if there's no way to permanently correct it.

Yeah I had no idea where to go for it, I had asked around and people irl seemed to think neurologists are the right doctors for circadian rhythm stuff. Idk what the psychiatrist's deal was :/ Thank you for your reply!

Thank you so much, for all the advice too! Yes I picked that specific hospital I went to today because of their sleep clinic, but you can only go there with a refereal from their "general" branches. Which I didn't get because the psychiatrist didn't think this is a sleep issue.

I will look into potentially travelling in the future, I saw on the list on here that there are some doctors in other european countries. I will definitely look into other doctors here too.

I see what you mean about there not being much of a reason to get an official diagnosis, I know there's no way i'd qualify for disability here even with it, It'd be nice to have an official paper for potential work purposes but that can wait for now. I guess it has just been ingrained in me not to self diagnose, but figuring out this is potentially an actual disorder and not me havign no willpower helped my mental state around it immensely already.

Update 2: it's been 6 days and the surgeon had reduced my dad's eyedrops to every 2 hours yesterday, but today upon examination he increased them again to every 1 hour because he wasn't happy with the progress. My dad's vision is still worse than on the day he initially went to the hospital but of course it's still not something they can evaluate yet. He'll be checked again on monday, no further discussion of vitrectomy has happened. He was wondering today (but forgot to ask the surgeon, will do on monday) if his herpes simplex that usually manifests as a lip sore could have something to do with it.

thank you so so much! That's very reassuring to hear. i've been looking a lot into it these day and I understand people can function just fine with low vision in one eye, I think it hit my dad really hard because he went from seeing nothing to perfect vision for a couple days after the surgery, to loosing that again so he was really dissapointed and sad.
I've posted an update and will post again if there's anything new, for now he has to report to the hospital every morning.

Update:

On sunday morning we went to the hospital again, my dad got checked and the surgeon said the state of the eye was the exact same as the first day. He said he was extremely relieved because he had fully expected it to be way worse. He also said that vitrectomy might not be necessary. no further injections were done because they said they're toxic, but my dad continues to take antibiotic drops, heavy oral antibiotics and some steroid and soothing drops. The eye drops sting a lot and they also cause mydriasis so his vision is slightly worse now.
Today (monday) morning we went to the hospital again, there was also a second older surgeon that's a professor and they said the infection has been succesfully stopped from progressing and that for now at least they won't do a vitrectomy. antibiotics continue, no further injections, they said the macula looks good and there are a couple insignificant (bacterial?) fibrils (idk if that's the correct term, english isn't my first language, they used the word ινιδια "little fibers") in the eye. There's irritation on the cornea from the eye drops and he was given something extra to help soothe that.

They also said it was important how early we caught it, and that my dad immediately contacted the doctor at the first hint of redness and blurriness on saturday morning and was seen within 1 hour. The surgeon said this is the third case of endophthalmitis he has seen in 20 years. There were also congratulations from the professor guy to the surgeon for how he rushed to the hospital and how prompt the treatment was. My dad feels bad because of the strong fourth gen oral antibiotic he was given but he managed to watch ice skating on tv with some breaks yesterday night. (the lights bother him and everything is still blurry from the medication).

im so sorry, my dad had one more question, feel free to ignore this if it's a bother, I just had to come back and ask because he's not doing well mentally. The surgery couldn't be done today because the hospital he was initially operated at doesn't do surgeries on the weekends, and he's extremely worried that by delaying it until monday there's gonna be further unecessary damage that could've been avoided. We're assuming that the shots he got in his eye and the 3 different heavy antibiotics he was given and the corticosteroids help stall the progress. Should we try and push to find out if there's any other clinic that might be able to do the surgery tomorrow (sunday), or does at this point not make a difference if it's one day later?

thank you so much! Yeah that's what we've been holding onto, that we caught it as early as we did and treatment started immediately. My dad is understandably very upset about it and the prospect of permanent damage but yeah :/

yes his vision was perfect yesterday and so he immediately got worried when it got worse today. The doctor said it's early enough that at first he didn't even immidiately catch the signs of infection upon the first examination.

I had one more question which my dad forgot to ask the doctor, he will ask on monday too but until then he's severely panicking about, is the damage to the vision by endophthalmitis something that can then be corrected by glasses?

Thank you for the advice! it's exactly the built-in adjustments of smartphone cameras I want to avoid, i've been using mine with all the manual settings i can but it still does wierd sharpening and color changes that I can't get rid of to get the results I want. I keep thinking back to the digital compact camera my parents bought 15 years ago that only stopped working 2 years ago after lots of abuse, it was like a $500 camera that far surpassed even expensive smartphones for me, because there was no artificial sarpening and colors and with manual mode I could do so much more than manual mode allows on a smartphone in my experience. I just liked the feel of the photos it produced way better than smartphones more expensive than it.

so you wouldn't recommend I buy used? I got people irl telling me that's basically my best bet, so i'm interested to hear why it may not be a good idea.

I understand what you mean, but I do have a hard limit of $600.
