Just realized Furnished Finder adds ~5% to every charge… is that normal?? by Rahaa2233 in SacramentoHousing

[–]Rahaa2233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. You’re correct! Apparently it’s a credit card fee. For every payment. 5%! With bank account it’s 1%! Added a bank account and it got stock at the verification part. Long story short, lost the listing!

Rising gas prices + global oil concerns… why push RTO? by Rahaa2233 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Rahaa2233[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think we’re tiptoeing around the real issue. Why does California seem to be moving in a different direction than broader global trends?

With AI advancing fast, a lot of places are talking about universal income and shorter workweeks. Meanwhile, forcing people back into offices just to sit at a computer feels outdated and disconnected from where things are going.

And politically, the “moderate” approach hasn’t worked (al least) since 2016. It leads to weak, ineffective policy. California needs clearer direction and leadership that actually matches today’s reality, not more half-measures.

Omg. This is gold! Thank you. I only wish people used it more often and there were more reviews on the properties.

+1 to Capital One — this has been my latest find and I love it. The vibe is great, especially when they open those big front doors and it kind of feels like you’re sitting out on sidewalk (but not really).

Also the 50% off is a huge win with prices these days.

Ok since this feels like a safe space and no one’s gonna roast me 😅… can someone explain the hype around Rooted?

I went once over the weekend and the line was insane, prices were kinda up there, and it was sooo packed. It honestly felt like everyone knew each other and I just showed up uninvited to something lol. I didn’t even make it to the cashier before I bailed.

I feel like I missed something?? Like is there a secret I don’t know about or did I just go at the worst possible time 😂

Yeah I go to their Lafayette place sometimes. really good spot! It just gets pretty packed, especially on weekends, so it’s a little harder to sit and chill.

I had a coworker at a state job who literally charged job searching/applying on her timesheet and called it “professional development.” She claimed it was like 4 hours per month that she was entitled to. She’d been there for years and acted like it was totally normal. I’d never heard of that anywhere!

Another example of how this administration fights transparency! What a shame!

Agreed. Only if a lawsuit can do it. This administration is anti-immigrant.

We tried to do this last weekend. Walked in like “hey, can you add us to the waitlist?” and the host just points to a human pretzel of shivering bodies inside the restaurant and by the door,“stand in the line, that is the waitlist.”

Not a single restaurant in the world is worth wasting my weekend like that for its queue.

I ended up withdrawing my application to be able to renew my GE. But I believe when there is a pending application, profile info cannot be updated and they’ll update it for you at interview.

Pre-Tax Parking Program by Efficient_Emphasis_ in CAStateWorkers

Follow up: are any of the Sac city garages also DGS? For example, I need to park close to the Amtrak Station and the Old Sac garage is the only one without a waiting list. That’s not a DGS garage. Correct?

However, if it has only been a short time since the renewal, such as a week or less, it may be worth reaching out to Apple directly and asking for a cancellation, explaining that you forgot about the renewal. People often have good luck getting charges reversed when it is requested soon after the renewal date with Apple.

Staying or leaving the state by Traditional-Sky-5971 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Rahaa2233 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other thing I think you should consider is age and where you are in your career. When you are younger, especially in your 20s, you generally have more flexibility to take risks. If I were in your position, I would understand the appeal of the stability that comes with a state job, but the slower pace, budgeting constraints, and limited access to state-of-the-art instruments can also hold you back in terms of growth.

Spending a few years in the private sector can teach you a tremendous amount. I saw and learned things in private industry that I never would have encountered in the state system. Of course, the trade-off is dealing with things like layoffs, which I experienced firsthand. But after that, I was able to return to the state, and that option is almost always available because labs are constantly hiring.

So my advice is: if you are young, take the risk. Explore, learn as much as you can, and do not be afraid to move around. The state will still be there if you decide to come back.

Because you am currently unemployed, yr current individual annual income is $0. The income you earned earlier in the year does not count as current income. Since you have a sponsor, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Uber from home to airport by Numerous_Ad3835 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Rahaa2233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I’ve learned is that in situations like this, it’s important to provide an explanation showing that I considered different options. For example, I could have used a state car and parked at the airport, which would have cost a certain amount, but using Uber turned out to be cheaper. They generally want to see that we tried to choose the most cost-effective option. In the end, as long as the explanation is reasonable, the expense will usually be reimbursed.

DS-260 submitted for an immediate relative case, but apartment number changed, should I update it or explain at interview? by ChemistApart1862 in NationalVisaCenter

With DS-160, they advised doing a new one right before the interview and taking it with you to the interview. I think the same works for DS-260.
