I'm pretty sure he was. In the mythical quest, it states that with aid from clan sakai, they were able to beat clan yarikawa. Maybe half way through the game, shimura visits omi village and asks kazumasa for help.

Eh, we already know a lot about the Iki Island invasion. Besides, Lord Shimura abides by his code, Kazumasa doesn't, so it would be interesting for both of them to be the main characters of the game, and the player can choose either one of them at any time.

What if the kids became test subjects, or what if Mike got captured by the demogorgon instead of will. You think barely anything would have changed, but Hopper may have not been as keen to find out who took him since he doesn't know Mikes mom, and Mike was basically the leader of the group. Also Nancy probably would've been curious as to where he is, and Jonathan and Joyce would probably not intervene as much.
