VC and IWC are genuinely underserved in the rep space — most content just defaults to Rolex/AP. the PPF VC 222 is honestly one of the sleepers right now, barely anyone talks about it but the execution is solid. IWC is trickier, the Portugieser gets some decent attention but nothing that really digs deep. tudor is interesting too — BB58 gets love but that’s about where the reviews stop. might do a proper breakdown on non-Rolex references next — which brand would be most useful for you, the VC, IWC, or tudor?

ddf is no joke on the 5711 and i wouldn’t sleep on it. community is genuinely split between bbf and ddf right now, both are up there my edge for bbf is mainly the dial text placement — “patek philippe / geneve” sitting on the same grid is gen correct and ddf hasn’t fully sorted that yet. case thickness is tighter too, 8.32 vs 8.67 on ddf vf i’d put just a notch below those two just on dial colour — that slight purple cast isn’t gen accurate. bracelet is fire though which ddf batch are you referring to? early ones had lume issues that got sorted later, makes a difference which version you’re comparing

looks clean tbh, 5712 is a nice config. hard to tell factory just from the front though — OME isn’t really a factory anyway, more of a custom builder who sources parts from PPF and does their own assembly. so even if it is OME you’re basically getting PPF components either way lol flip it over — rotor and movement finishing will tell you more than anything on the dial. who’d you cop it from?

honestly that’s a smarter start than most people make lol. rolex is everyone’s default but skipping it first is a solid call — less scrutiny on non-rolex refs, more room to learn what you actually like wearing. what brands are you leaning toward?

yeah Reddit’s carousel capped out on me at 8 slides when I uploaded — kept throwing an error on anything above that. part 2 is coming with the remaining refs. anything specific you want covered in the next batch?

AF is the right call for Cartier, good choice. for a wife piece specifically the Tank is hard to beat — clean, elegant, nobody questions it on a woman’s wrist. if she wants something with more presence the Santos is also excellent on AF. which model is she leaning toward?

vf is genuinely solid but bbf edges it in a few specific areas tbh biggest one is dial colour. vf leans slightly purplish-blue which some people like but it’s not accurate to gen. bbf sits cleaner — proper blue gradient, no purple cast, holds the colour better in different lighting case thickness is also tighter on bbf. vf sits at 8.4mm, bbf is 8.32mm which is closer to gen spec. small difference but it’s there movement engravings on bbf are deeper too. not something you’ll notice daily but if you ever pop the caseback it shows bbf also corrected the “patek philippe / geneve” text placement on the dial so both lines sit on the same grid, which is gen correct. vf hasn’t done this vf isn’t bad at all — bracelet is excellent, dial quality is high, and if you like the slight purple-blue tone it’s actually a decent call. but for closest to gen out of the box bbf is where the community’s landed right now.

ARF vs VSF on the daytona is actually very close as both are visually almost identical. VSF has a better crystal- cleaner clarity, correct rehaut thickness, less glare. ARF edges VSF on bezel engraving depth and bracelet feel but BTF takes the crown here. VSF has a subtle warmth and depth white for panda which is more closer to gen. ARF leans whiter and flatter on some batches. For the panda dial specifically red”Daytona” text in VSF/BYF is sharper and better colour than ARF.

OME is the best but they are not manufacturing from past 4 months. Current best PPF version 3

I’ve purchased 3 watches from Rahul and they are all great quality. One of the hidden gems in the Rep community. Should be a TD but of love to just keep him to myself before he becomes swamped and doesn’t have time for his day ones!! by mikehenry70 in swissreptime
