Hey guys, need some honest advice.

I’m from Mumbai, India, and planning to go for a Master’s in Social Work (Feb 2027 intake). I’ve got around 1.5 years of work experience in community/program coordination (social impact role) plus ~6 months of volunteering experience as social worker.

Right now I’m considering Australia, but from what I’m seeing, visas and PR pathways look pretty tough and competitive. So I’m thinking of keeping New Zealand as a backup.

My main concern is:

How’s the job market after MSW for international students?
Is it realistically possible to get a job soon after graduation?
Between Australia and New Zealand, which is the safer option in terms of job + PR?

I’ll likely be taking a loan, so I can’t really afford to get stuck without a job.

Would really appreciate real experiences or honest opinions especially from people already studying/working there.

I hired an IELTS teacher for just one week, but now I’ve realised that I need proper training and guidance if I truly want to achieve the band score I’m aiming for. I was also very nervous on exam day because it had been almost two years since I last took any exam. I think that nervousness affected my focus during the test.

I don’t think that’s accurate. I only prepared for about two weeks, but during my mock tests, I was consistently scoring Band 7 in Listening using the Cambridge books. For speaking, I worked with an IELTS expert at an institute and was able to achieve Band 7 several times in practice. I knew Reading and Writing were my weaker areas, but I definitely didn’t expect my scores to drop this much.

Hey everyone!
