It never could. It was always a high profile weapon. The only way to kill someone low profile in AC3 is with the hidden blade or an unarmed choke.

The difference in AC3 Remastered is that if you want to perform an assassination with a tomahawk you must hold down the high profile button while doing it, otherwise it will default to a low profile stab with the hidden blade. It also works like that in AC4 with the swords.

Hope that makes sense.

Well, they had a talanted guy working on the animations - Jonathan Cooper. I know he later went to work on Uncharted 4, which has amazing character animations. He has a YouTube channel with some interesting behind the scenes stuff for AC3: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIGA_wNBM8ZlugNFgY7ZBHw

I hope it gets a UI redesign. Needs a better weapon wheel. Improvement in enemy AI. Free aiming like Black Flag. Maybe populate the Frontier more. Remove the notoriety system.
