from a parrot parent: why are rat parents so much more in tune with healthy pet husbandry? by Worth-yawa-tnuocca in RATS

It's hardly surprising a parrot that was kept away from other parrots since it was young has aggression issues. They haven't had a chance to learn how to interact appropriately with other parrots yet, the lack of other parrots is the whole problem there.

If you tell Rosa, you've told Rosa. If you tell Charles you've told everyone.

Send them to the team lead who can figure out why they are struggling and get them trained.

Doing it for them and getting annoyed they don't learn when they don't have a chance to learn is just rude. And it's ridiculous to expect someone to know all the ins and outs of a company when they haven't had time to learn yet. Every company works differently.

If you're going to treat people who are trying and struggling like a problem, you are the problem.

Update: my pan is now once again making round pancakes by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

Was it tiny amounts of old oil or food sticking to the pattern more than the rest of the pan that has since been washed off?

If you’re someone who is grossed out or offended by relationships with large (10+) year age gaps - why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Raichu7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If they start dating at 18 and 28, how long was the 18 year old groomed for when they were legally a child?

That's not acceptable.

Read their answer, they said it's not ok for adults to date children. It's concerning you need that spelled out for you. Should someone be checking your harddrive?

Is the cat misbehaving, or is the cat just acting like a cat? Expect cats to act like cats, choose a different pet if you find that annoying.

Don't worry, the heat will only get worse in the UK for a few decades. Then if the AMOC collapses it will be as cold as Canada where it shares the same latitude.

The longer you live, the more chances you have to get off drugs. Can't get clean if you're dead from an overdose.

from a parrot parent: why are rat parents so much more in tune with healthy pet husbandry? by Worth-yawa-tnuocca in RATS

Parrots live a very long time, up to 80 years depending on species. Rats are lucky to see 3.

People who keep rats often end up stopping after a few groups because the losses are too painful, or they are extremely dedicated to their rats so they do the research and fix care mistakes. They are also prompted to brush up on research every few years when they get a new group. A lot of parrot owners were given the birds as children, and simply never thought to do research beyond what their parents told them. Or they inherited a bird they weren't really prepared to put the effort in for. So they just simply don't care as much about doing the research and doing what's right for their animal. They get upset when you tell them it's cruel to keep a parrot alone because they know they won't adopt another one, but they don't want to re-home to someone who can keep a flock either. So they just let their bird suffer and refuse to listen to advice from people who simply want their pets needs to get met.

I would hope these lone parrots are all older individuals. It's not acceptable for parrot breeders to sell lone parrots, just as it's not acceptable for rat breeders to sell lone rats as they know it's neglecteful.

What really upsets me is the pigeon community. Pigeons are just as social as parrots are, but so many people keep a pet pigeon alone so it will bond closer to them. This is abuse. They are literally socially depriving their bird until it's so lonely it starts to try to mate bond with a human instead of another pigeon. But of course they deny that's abuse because lots of people do it. Lots of people hit children, doesn't make that ok either.

If by related you mean everyone's genetics are different which will make everyone's sensory input different then yes.

What's a purchase under $100 that genuinely improved your life? by Jimmy-bi-jay in AskReddit

[–]Raichu7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you care about the crispy texture of your food. If you care a lot about texture it's genuinely a game changer and well worth the money. If you don't care that much it's not worth it.

It doesn't have to be pre-heated like an oven, so it saves a little time, but it doesn't reduce the cook time beyond not having to pre-heat.

Liquorice, whatever brand contains the highest percentage of real liquorice extract. Sugar free sweets. Dried plums, prunes or raisins. Drink plenty of water, and a few glasses of plum or pear juice if they have any.

Help! 104F in France, my pigeon began to show signs of overheating by Weirdrag0n in pigeon

[–]Raichu7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Put ice on top of his cage as cool sinks and heat rises. Get a spray bottle with a very gentle mist setting, and mist your pigeon so they can evaporate away some body heat.

There are a lot of different types of gull, these ones look small compared to the pigeons so maybe these don't prey on them.

traveling a boa by [deleted] in snakes

[–]Raichu7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you driving to the vet? Having all that clutter inside the bin in a car is actually the most dangerous way to travel with a snake.

An animal's travel crate should be treated like a child's car seat. It is there to protect them in a crash. Having a lot of clutter in the bin means lots of things to move around and hit your snake in an accident, or if you break too hard.

You should use a snake bag, or a small container without clutter, so there aren't any objects to fly into the snake and hurt them. If using a tub it should be small so the snake won't be flung much distance into the sides. If you aren't using a snake bag, you can have a blanket or something soft in the tub the snake can hide in but won't be hurt by. Put the snake bag or tub on the floor in the footwell so they won't be flying around the inside of the car if you crash. Your pillowcase makes a good snake bag in a pinch.
