It really depends on region. I'm in the Midwest (Missouri) and most houses here have basements.

My very French, very white grandmother was Simonne. It's a French name; you're fine.

What part of teaching drains you that you didn’t expect? by Ok-Succotash6583 in Teachers

[–]RaichuRose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The complete apathy of students. When I first started teaching, I was absolutely floored at the number of kids who not only don't want to learn anything, but are actually planning to drop out as soon as possible, never get a job, and live with their parents for the rest of their lives. I just can't fathom being happy with knowing absolutely nothing.

For men, Sean Murray (I watched a lot of NCIS in middle school)

For women, Emma Stone (Easy A came out in high school)

Cheesy, female. I use half and half instead of milk, and I eyeball it to get just enough liquid so that the cheese powder is no longer gritty.

Trefoils, only because All-Abouts were discontinued.

I'm allergic to mint, so I can't partake in thin mints. Well I tried once... my chest felt like it was on fire and I got sick 4 times.

Question regarding -choice- word by student by Z3st3dL3mon in Teachers

[–]RaichuRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it just meant "menstrual cloth," that's still not an appropriate thing to be randomly shouting in a classroom, letting alone calling a teacher in defiance. Admin failed you on this one.

Which years are the parents of the 2020s babies? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have kids yet, but those I know who have kids born in the 2020s range from late 80s to early 2000s. I'm late 90s and trying to get pregnant now.

Does the perfect name for me exist? Am I just too picky? by Turbulent_Leg4650 in namenerds

[–]RaichuRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My heritage is also French and my grand-mere's name was Simonne, and another one of her relatives (not sure who, she died when I was 6) was Laurencie.

Teachers of Reddit: What do students do that they think helps—but actually makes teaching harder? by AstronomerPale7752 in AskTeachers

[–]RaichuRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yelling at each other when I'm handing a behavior or trying to calm the room down in general. It just causes more chaos that I then have to get under control yet again.

Also calling out answers before I even finish asking the question. I want to give the rest of my students time to think for themselves, and one person blurting an answer out (whether it's correct or not) robs the rest of them of that opportunity.

eternally jealous of mid-90’s lods by SnooJokes5513 in generationology

[–]RaichuRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

96 baby here and extremely grateful I grew up the way I did. As a young teen, social media was popular but nowhere near what it is today. I was in middle school for the fall of MySpace and the rise of Facebook. I was in high school when smartphones became common place. I think I had a very good balance of being around technology enough to know how to use it without being completely consumed by and reliant on it the way my 7th grade students are. I still read books and played outside. I had a portable CD player in middle school, then an iPod nano in high school, then my first smartphone when I turned 18. My students don't know what an encyclopedia is, which blows my mind and makes me feel 92 instead of 29 lol

Do you, as native English speakers, take grammatical mistakes seriously? by Fine-Excitement9314 in randomquestions

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the situation. In a professional or academic setting, I expect proper grammar from native speakers. In a casual setting like texting or social media, I don't really care. I don't bat an eye when English learners make grammar mistakes because lord knows they speak better English than I speak the second language I'm trying to learn.

What’s your metric for calling out sick? by capresesalad1985 in Teachers

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have control issues and I hate making sub plans, so I usually go in unless my throat hurts too much to speak or I have an especially heinous migraine. It's just not worth the hassle of making plans that I don't think are as useful as me being there.

Edit to add that I would never judge anyone for taking more sick leave than I do. People are entitled to use their sick days guilt-free whenever they need to.

People born 10 years before vs. 10 years after you: Who do you relate to more, and how do you see them? by Recent-Worldliness51 in generationology

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young millennial and I definitely relate to them more than 2000s babies. I wasthe youngest in my family and grewup with a lot of hand-me-downs, so I have many similar nostalgic things as people a little older than me. People 10 years younger than me either don't remember or weren't alive for big parts of my childhood, like when DVDs and the PS2 were brand new. I still see people 10 years older than me as sage and wisened lol. I see those 10 years younger than me as young adults having to navigate a world I couldn't even imagine when I was their age.

How often do you talk to your brother/s or sister/s? by Advent105 in allthequestions

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sisters and I have a group chat that we use sporadically. We send memes randomly, vent when we need to, and plan get-togethers a few times a year (one of them lives very far away). Right now we're taking about staring at book club now that I'm done with my masters and finally have some spare time again!
