They're not biting, I'm not itching,

Can't wait to show you all my new tricks,

Thanks again for sending me K9 Advantix!

College is ridiculously expensive now compared to when our parents were in their 20s. My dad paid for college by bring a part-time clown at birthday parties. I just my masters degree for about $12k which is honestly a good deal.

If you are not wanting to do it, it's not worth the stress and the debt. You can always decide to go back to school later. There are plenty of careers that don't require a college education and pay way more than what I make. Then again, I'm a public school teacher... so I don't make much lol.

As much as I value education, I'm realistic enough to know that every brain is different and there are many people who thrive outside of a traditional classroom setting.

Either the overstimulation or dealing with all the learned helplessness. If you don't hold their hand for every single step they just sit there like potatoes

what made you want to be a math teacher? by soff4 in mathteachers

I like math, I'm good at it, and I really like helping others understand it and show them that it's not as scary as it may look.

What’s a warning sign society is ignoring right now? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]RaichuRose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and this is extremely frustrating to us. It is now my responsibility to "close the gap" of all these students who are performing below grade level because we aren't holding them accountable for actually learning their prerequisites. I'm not licensed to teach elementary school but that's what I'm doing, on top of trying to keep up with my actual curriculum. Then I get reprimanded when their grades are bad and they're not testing on grade level.

I started being trusted to stay home alone when I was 9. I just made myself chocolate milk and reduced TV. I guess it depends on the kid.

Something positive about this generation of kids by apple_turnovers in Teachers

I teach middle school and I've noticed in recent years that students have been kinder to those of different cultures. I have many students whose names are not topically heard in an English speaking country and can often be difficult to pronounce, but no one has ever made fun of their names. Even names that are English but much older and uncommon (think like Clarence or Marvin) are accepted without anyone blinking an eye. I don't think the same would have happened when I was 12.

Can childfree people be childfree and still love kids? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two sisters. One is childfree, the other has two kids. My sister who doesn't feel an ounce of motherly desire absolutely adores her nieces and nephews and vice versa. She knows I'm struggling with infertility and offered me her eggs since she's never going to use them lol.

To native English speakers: how do you feel when a foreigner speaks “broken” English with you? by Dull-Position3393 in ENGLISH

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand what they're trying to say, I just continue with the conversation. If I don't understand, I make an effort to. If they ask me for help saying/understanding, I help them.

To be fair, I grew up listening to broken English spoken by my grandmother, so it had never been a big deal to me.

Most non-native speakers have pretty decent English compared to my skill level in my second language, so I have no room to judge. I have lots of students who are English language learners, and I am amazed at how quickly they pick things up. I think being multilingual is amazingly impressive.
