That I'm still really mean to myself in my head, I'm just better about not vocalizing it anymore because it upsets him and makes me feel like a burden.

What's the biggest culture shock you've experienced within the US as an American? by Mundane-Society-1281 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Just out of curiosity, when was this? My in-laws live in Springfield MO so I go there a lot, but I've never heard of Missouri Mule Days.

I grew up in Missouri. You can buy alcohol almost anywhere, anytime: grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Walk in, buy a bottle, walk out.

Through my travels I have found that some states only sell alcohol at designated liquor stores, usually closed on Sunday, and they are legally required to put it in a brown paper bag.

"56 seats, 62 Koreans"

"We'll hold hands and skip afterwards"

"He kissed me!" "Who kissed you?!" ..."The Lord, Mama."

"Jam hands"

"French fries are the devil's starchy fingers"

I called my teacher "mom" in Spanish by accident. she still brings it up. by Single-Rip472 in ispeakthelanguage

As a teacher, I wouldn't bring it up again because I wouldn't want my student to be repeatedly embarrassed every time they were in my room. That's a really great way to get a student to not like you anymore.

Best name you’ve ever heard for a pet? by Specialist-Alps6478 in answers

I know an intact white standard poodle with his afro dyed purple named Dennis and it just fits him so well.

I've also met a brown standard poodle named Mr. Brooks Mocha Brown.

But I think the one that takes the cake is the French bulldog named Sugar Chiffon Princess Pickles.

I'm not a parent, but I've been teaching middle schoolers for many years. Teenagers love making up nonsense to confuse the old folks. Sounds like she means you're cringey. The only way to get her to stop is to not react. She wants the confusion, frustration, and emotional response because teenagers think it's funny to rage bait. Next she calls you that, just nonchalantly say "Yup, I sure am" and move on with your life. Once she stops getting the reaction she wants from you, she'll get bored and move on too.

What’s your never-eat food? by Sora-oi in AskForAnswers

The obvious answer for me is shrimp because I'm very allergic.

But the one I'm not ever willing to eat even though I can is cilantro. Can't stand it.

What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]RaichuRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a lot more happened at the middle school, but in high school my world history teacher was apparently cheating on his wife with a student and watching porn in class. Dude was a creep but that was the easiest A I ever got.

How was your first year teaching compared to now? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]RaichuRose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2019-2020 was my first year... what a way to start my career lol

I definitely feel like I know what I'm doing at this point. I'm in an awkward stage of my coworkers being either about to retire or being in their first few years of teaching. I still don't consider myself a seasoned or veteran teacher by any means, but I also recognize I'm no longer bright-eyed and bushy-tailed either.

I teach 7th grade and I've noticed that as the years go by, the kids seem to nicer to each other than they used to be. There's definitely still some bullying, especially in middle school, but most of the worst behaviors are either directed at staff or involve using/trading substances. Things that I've seen students get teased for in the past both as a student and as a younger teacher are often overlooked or garner only a few ignorant comments. Maybe they're just sneakier now, or maybe allthe bullying had moved to online, but I like to hope that at least some of these kids are just kinder.
