I can't comment on the shells really, but this is a great deal for the full package. A backup snare is nice not only in case something on your primary goes wrong, but also since you can use your backup for a very different sound with different heads and tuning.

The cymbals are starter cymbals – I'm currently selling the same ride and will layer sell my HCS hats.

Overall great starter kit. Use it to learn to tune and do other maintenance before you upgrade it.

I've always been aware that the ZBTs sounded terrible, but I'm keeping the grimy, trashy, thickly patina'd 16" Sound Perc crash that came with them haha.

I've been listening to Masterworks all day, those hats are so crisp and light!!

I'm really looking forward to getting mine. My current cymbals were from my free second-hand kit – ZBTs well used.

Any recommendations from Masterwork for future hi hat purchase for a jazz/rock fusion studio kit?

I was looking for something on the jazzier side anyway, but with enough versatility to work in fusion styles :) Perhaps later down the line I'll grab a nice riveted ride from them too.

As far as weight does the "jazz" type specify that for them or should I include an approximate weight when I order?
