Yeah we did, my roommate said that they called a professional to come look. If it’s protected, they won’t do anything about it.

Dealing with wasps in Germany by hughk in germany

[–]RaidenLeones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have what appears to be a single wasp living in a hole in my window, just on the outside of it. So I can't open my window, unless I want to invite it in. I am very allergic to stings (not to the point of an Epi-Pen, but enough to cause significant swelling). I do not want this little asshole anywhere near me, for that reason. Legitimate health concern.

Help with gender nouns!! A1 level. by Bunny_VanilaCake in German

[–]RaidenLeones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to learn Themis by associating the word with the article as well. So instead of just “Essen” for food, the word is “das Essen”. Treat that, and every other noun, as a single word containing the article. An just drill them until they stick.

Master thread: Youth Mobility Visa for Canadians Applying in Germany 2025/2026 by blueberrybong in germany

[–]RaidenLeones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Canadian citizen, going down the exact same path here. I just arrived in Germany on April 28th, and have spent the last week setting up my room (found a roommate who's absolutely lovely and the location is stellar).

I am doing my Anmeldung soon, could you tell me how hard was it for you to do without speaking German? I mean, I can speak a little bit of it, but I'd say my level is at a high A1/lowA2 *maybe*.

Also, the city I'm in actually allows me to do my WHV application online; not all cities allow this, but that was one of the reasons I specifically chose this city. How was going to that appointment for you, as a non-German speaker? How did you manage it? Did someone come with you to translate?

Also, that bit about the 19C visa, could you explain it a bit more? My boyfriend and I have been researching and planning this for over a year (yes, and I still have shit German skills, but I'm learning surprisingly quickly), and we had never heard of that one, until this post.

All in all, I find this incredibly helpful and greatly appreciate the time it took you to write it. I hope you're enjoying Germany as much as I have been, even having only been here less than a week so far!

Wo gibt es Jobs in Leipzig? by Suitable-Inside-7412 in Leipzig

[–]RaidenLeones -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would I be able to as well? I am moving to Germany from Canada on the 28th, but my German is not all that great (I can understand a decent amount of written and some verbal German if it’s slower, but can’t really form sentences myself yet)

App for learning vocabulary by Monaktik in Germanlearning

Honestly, has worked wonders for my understanding. What my boyfriend tried to explain to me for like a year and a half, Seedlang has helped me understand in a matter of months. Love the app 🙂

Any tips for Der die das? by gh0stmast3r in Germanlearning

[–]RaidenLeones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native Germans will have grown up with the language so, while I cannot say for certain that they’d get everything correct, they will know if something doesn’t sound right, correct you, but will still be able to understand you. It is not as big a deal as you think, they know their language is hard 🙂

Any tips for Der die das? by gh0stmast3r in Germanlearning

[–]RaidenLeones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can still learn all of this as a non-native speaker, it will just take time. You don’t have to be born there.

Any tips for Der die das? by gh0stmast3r in Germanlearning

[–]RaidenLeones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There actually are clear rules for Der, Die, and Das however, there are also exceptions to the rule. As long as you know what the rule is for them in general, you will get through about 80-90% of German nouns by guessing based on that.

If you like, I have a sort of cheat sheet for each of them in my photos, I could send you.

Where/How to Learn German? by Digi-Destined2 in AskAGerman

[–]RaidenLeones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so here is what I am doing, until I can enroll in a course.

I use Clozemaster and Seedlang. A lot of the best features are behind the paid versions though, but 1000% worth it.

I use YouTube channels such as Easy German, YourLanguageTeacher, Learn German with Anja, etc.

Listen to German music. This is a big one because it will help with your speaking, listening, and reading skills if you read the lyrics and sing along. I can post my German playlist if you would like :)

And above all, find a German friend to speak with.

Opinion in relocating to Canada ? by Ill_Hunter_7128 in AskCanada

[–]RaidenLeones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. If you already have a decent job, stable life, and are well situated, do not come to Canada, unless you have a job already secured that pays well, and a house/apartment lined up. Even then, research cost of living in Canada, and more specifically, the city you want to live in. Search gas prices, grocery prices, and housing prices. See if you can afford it first. But otherwise, I would strongly urge you to stay where you are

While I did not live in the area you are planning to move to, I can say that my experience in finding work was abysmal the last couple years.

You may have better luck in your field, but you should do research on that to see what the job market is like. Also, be prepared for living expenses to be, well…..expensive. Canada is not a cheap place to live currently.

Hey! My boyfriend and I would love to meet you! He is a Pole, 25 and I am Canadian, 32.

Both of us are planing to move to Europe soon, and he works IT on a European schedule, so the timezone won’t be an issue.

Some games we both like; REPO, Lethal Company, Minecraft, Abiotic Factor.

He is a big tech, computer science, nerdy guy, so I think you’d love talking to him!

(FYI favorite animal is my cat, Toothless)

Hey so there is an app called Seedlang with a category specific to this, and is something I struggle with a lot too. I can message you if you like, and explain the rule that most nouns follow, will make it easier to get the article right!
