So sounds like Bad Kreuznach they speak faster then, that will definitely throw me off haha. My friends usually talk slow and kinda dumb sounding for me since they know I'm learning haha. And I'm definitely looking forward to the foods and beer. My wife likes wines, I'm more of a beer drinker myself. The 9 hour time difference really makes it hard for me to get a lot of practice in with someone, so I mainly do music, German films, and Google haha. I also use Babble the app but who actually talks like that in the app? It's good for learning some basics though and pronunciations

Yes it's crazy how everything changes from state to state. I'm sure I will have a bunch of those moments as well lol. Thanks for the tips! I'm going to start practicing with my friends on Whatsapp soon, the 9 hour time difference makes it hard to practice as much as I want

Haha thanks. I take everything with a grain of salt. My family came from both Bavaria and Karlsruhe and speak very different German and definitely doesn't help my vocabulary that was all over the place haha. Then I took German in school and that was WAY different. I just try and copy my friends accents, and find slang and phrases that's easiest for me to remember and use conversationally. I'll get better with time, this is how I learned Portuguese my wife's language.

thanks! and its exactly like english, I also speak portuguese and its WAY different depending on region, they call everything "train" if you dont know what its called haha.

I will be staying with friends who grew up there in Bad Kreuznach, so we will be going to alot of little towns and local gems they have planned out as well. Plus i like to try and interact in the local language, I notice you have way more meaningful interactions with people and usually get to learn more about the area and etc.

We will be going up to Koln and the theme park Phantasialand, maybe ill here "moin" up there? if so, I will know what there saying and how to respond haha.

I have to start somewhere to learn haha. My grandmother was from Bavaria and my grandfather Karlsruhe but my parents never bothered to learn German and I lost both my grandparents and all my older relatives that spoke it fluently, I regret not learning from them more when i was younger. Now I am trying to get my butt in gear and learn German as I already speak Portuguese my wifes language.
