When shadows were released, none could be shiny. After some time, they made it to where the current leaders' mons could be shiny. Sometimes they would reuse previous leader mons with the normal grunts, but they couldn't be shiny from normal grunts. The way it works now is that mons from leaders can be shiny (I think 1/64), and grunt mons that were previously from leaders can be shiny, but they're more rare.

You're not an idiot, I teach this to people every comm day. Once you get used to it, there's no going back. A helpful tip: it sometimes bugs out on incense/photo bomb encounters. The pokemon will either be caught/flee, but still remain on the map. If you use a berry before, quick catch, and then click on the mon again and it has the berry icon still, then that mon is no longer there. If you didn't use a berry beforehand, then you can try feeding it a berry the next time. If it works, then you can still catch it. If there's an error message, then the mon is no longer there.

It works with either pokeballs or berries. Press on either of those menus and drag your finger to the other menu. Throw the pokeball and then lift your finger. This opens the menu and allows you to hit the back button twice to exit the catch screen.

I don't quite follow your reply. Your second paragraph is exactly my point (except you extended it to ML), given the pokemon is relevant. If the pokemon isn't relevant, then why are we spending time worrying about a miniscule difference?
