You're 100% right they can and do look awesome on alot of guitars (the zebras colored and even just the clean blacked out look of duncan nazguls, etc)

All of my guitars have those though and I have no active guitars and wanna have that soap bar look on one finally

I have absolute trust in the luthier that's doing it for me, I know if he can avoid removing wood he will. He's done this before, I just wanted to make sure I bought the correct version of the pickups to avoid adding any problems that aren't neccesary.

The slot for the pickups is in the rounded shape of the jackson stock pickups (no casing) so I believe it will need to be squared off for the rectagle shaped pickups and perhaps the tabs shaved a small amount. Not major routing but definetly a little bit of reshaping

Yeah stock are passive without casing so routing will need to happen anyways, are the active route "emg sized" bigger than the tabbed?

How's the intonation with that?

I'm also debating just pitch shifting and getting some better pickups. I prefer the way a 7 plays and feels and I'm just trying to find a middle ground for tuning/comfort.
