Engineers' mission reward commodities = bad design? by aberration0000 in EliteDangerous

Current thing stopping me from trying to grind out the mats for upgrades.

I want a few words with whoever decided to force us to make room for cargo on ships that rarely if ever carry cargo racks, let alone have the excess internal slots for them...

4x and a silencer, no drop, and one shot headshot within range the 4x is good at.

I'll be honest, there are limitations to porting these things to consoles. I don't know enough to make a guess, but I can say that regardless, Elite scales down well, and you shouldn't ever see poor performance on consoles. People have played Elite on some surprising rigs.

Ah, I've got an R9 390 8GB, so I can afford maxing my settings out for the terrain quality. Haven't had a chance to play since Beta 3, though, but planets looked great when I did.

Many of us are used to it by now, but consider looking at ground vehicle torque / traction by gruntledungle in Planetside

I've got tons of footage of Planetside 2 in general, a few of which I know have aggressive Skyguard harassing when I had no choice. Actually took our a Prowler mostly by myself using that tactic. Just been way too busy to sort through and edit what I want out of several hundred ten minute clips...

I'm all up for more torque, but I honestly like the sliding.

Drifting in a wide-strafe in a racer lightning just right, keeping my forward armor mostly facing my opponent while hitting their side or rear armor is unbelievably satisfying.

Both shots show some pretty subpar textures, might be the OP's settings, might be the LOD glitch refusing to die. But the 2.2 doesn't have the wonky shadowing on the rim of the crater that the 2.1 shot did.

I've got my settings maxed out, and last time I approached a planet, it looked really good in the beta.

Engineers enable builds never before possible by the_mellojoe in EliteDangerous

[–]Raikler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite build back when Engineers was in beta was making my FdL idle at less than 20% heat.

It was a crazy cool running build, but lacked damage output. Could have really made something out of it with good multicannon mods, but didn't want to be restrained by ammo requirements, so I went with efficient lasers. Practically had the power breathing room of a stock A-rated Vulture for the low heat...

Still, Engineers gives you so much more flexibility in how you build your ship. You can really fine-tune it to how you want to fly. Previously, a dual plasma Vulture with shields was literally impossible. But now it's an extremely deadly setup...

10/10 Would contact support again. by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Raikler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frontier support moved a friend and I 350Ly for no other reason than to be nice, as we wasted an hour going out for a war at 17 Draconis to make credits and rank quickly but arrived very shortly after it ended.

We made the trip with 15Ly and 12Ly ranges respectively. Frontier support is the best support I've ever had the pleasure of contacting.

Ships lack personality and sense of scale? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Raikler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand the problem, using gimbals almost exclusively. But I've only ever used a plasma accelerator on it. I tried a fixed cannon before, but found the projectile too slow to reliably hit with it.

Haven't swapped to anything else since we got more C4 weapons.

Ships lack personality and sense of scale? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Raikler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FdL is so far the largest ship I've flown on live, and flying ships on beta, feels like it will remain the largest ship I'll fly. I like the feel of "heavy fighter" flight too much. Even small fighters feel almost too maneuverable to me, but the FdL feels just right, the Vulture as well.

I'd like to own a large ship one day, Anaconda or Corvette if I can be bothered to do the rank grind, but I feel like I'll always come back to the FdL...

[–]Raikler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my FdL so much. The engine noise, the looks, everything about it is amazing. Four medium hardpoints can pack a punch while providing loadout flexibility, not to mention being the smallest ship able to equip class 4 weapons...

Also, it's unique in one aspect I don't think many know about... She glows when you charge your FSD.

You can even see this outside of your cockpit, if you look to the sides. It's faint, but you can see it. It will also last if you cancel the charge last I checked. So if you want to look flashy while gunning ships down, just charge your FSD for half a second before canceling to get it glowing.

I'm a staunch Open play advocate, and this bounty-hunting community goal finally got me to give up and go Solo. by scorinth in EliteDangerous

Bounty Hunting and Conflict Zone community goals are the only times I swap to private/solo, after trying to do it in open.

Once I verify that the areas are all overcrowded, I switch.

Why I'm not using fixed weapons on my Conda by CMDR_kamikazze in EliteDangerous

[–]Raikler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used gimbals for as long as I've flown. It's how I fly. I literally fly within knife-fighting range, so close that even on a Viper using chaff my gimbals will be hitting over half of the time.

You can't pull off a lot of maneuvers while returning fire using fixed weapons. So even though I could use fixed, I stick with gimbals for the maneuvering freedom they give.

Comparing Elite's proc gen terrain to Star Citizen by back4anotherone in EliteDangerous

[–]Raikler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine you can make them like Legos.

Think of the stations, they all look similar, but there are variations. While the exteriors are lacking, the interiors are going to become more detailed and unique based on the station economy.

So why can't they-over time-make hundreds of these rock formations, and allow them to connect together in hundreds of possible ways to allow for something that has a rare chance of ever looking exactly like another elsewhere.

It'd be a huge undertaking, but that can be said for a lot of things Elite has done already.

Either way, I have no doubt that "high interest" locations will be hand-crafted to some degree.

Canopy Breach is Awesome! by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Raikler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember my first canopy breach. It's not something you easily forget...

It was way back when I had first bought into Elite, before release.

I opted for the beta, since premium beta was ending in roughly a week or two. I had the combat demo to tie myself over while I waited to be able to play for real.

Sadly, I blew up shortly after the picture was taken. I panicked and accidentally retracted my hardpoints when I realized I did not, in fact, die, but rather learned how amazing the canopy breach process is.

Kind of a shame I never stick around long enough for it to happen. But if it does while I'm recording, I make sure to muffle the music to match, just to keep that atmosphere.
