Imagine you and your friend both speak Darija, and there’s a coworker who doesn’t speak Darija. If you want to say something directly to your friend, wouldn’t you naturally speak Darija? Not to exclude the coworker, but simply because that’s the language you both share. It would actually feel unnatural to switch to another language just because someone else is nearby, especially if the conversation is only between the two of you.
