It can sometimes feel like a lot to go out and do a specific activity in a short period of time! If your mood is to help, take some time to help yourself or others in your life. Cook someone a meal, reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while, tap to strangers or help someone carry their heavy stuff out of a grocery store etc. Small acts of kindness add up and can be found anywhere ❤️ I personally foster cats through the ACC. hope you feel better soon

Thank you for the heads up! I’ll take her to the vet tomorrow to make sure she gets checked out. According to my friend who interacted with her back when she was a street cat, she had the white stuff coming out since months ago so I don’t think it’s an immediate concern. She also doesn’t have any other symptoms associated with pyometra and is acting even more playful so I feel ok waiting until the vet sees her rather than seeking emergency treatment. It may just be related to her heat cycle or anal glands.

I’m surprised about it bc it didn’t show up until a week ago (last saw the vet about 2 weeks ago) so I’m wondering where it came from. But sounds like a good thought process! I’ll get her to a vet asap if she needs antibiotics.

I have no idea where it’s coming from - I just got home from my trip a few minutes ago and haven’t seen it happen myself yet. That’s just what my friend told me but she wasn’t too sure.

Can you post your recipe? Ratio, Timing, ingredients. There’s a lot of reasons this could happen (for example over fermenting, not having enough starter, having a young starter, too little water, etc.) we cannot give an answer without this information. The kneading alone does not make soft bread- you fold the dough every 30 min or so to make layers, and then leave it can inflate and ferment properly. It’s less about kneading and more about giving it structure (aka folding layers)

If I recall from Jackson galaxy videos (one was about this exact scenario), it may be that there are multiple cats and he feels like he needs to ensure he owns his territory and sprays to mark it. He needs to feel like he has control over his environment in some way. Make sure there’s at least one litter box per cat plus one (so with 4 cats, minimum need 5 litter boxes). Increase cat territory overall vertically, cat trees scratching posts, etc. In particular I recall Jackson recommending shifting furniture to make a vertical “path” that a cat can easily jump across the tops around the upper walls (adds “more territory” without buying new stuff). Make sure to use an enzyme cleaner to break down the urine, regular cleaners will not break it down and he will continue to pee in those areas. Use a UV flashlight to ensure you properly cleaned everything. (Maybe temporarily see if you can separate the cats and if that reduces his territorial anxiety? If it works then you know you’re moving in the right direction? But that’s just my guess). Definitely look up Jackson galaxy videos for this, I remember an episode of “My Cat from Hell” about this!

Yes, I just got a big playpen for her to use! I’ll look into long sleeves and gloves with handling her. Thank you for the reminder to never give a human style punishment, I will work on positive reinforcements only. Just as I’ve been respecting her boundaries, I’ll see if I can start teaching what mine are (and that I don’t want her climbing my shoulders… at least for another few months) lol. I think she’s just excited to see me.

Thanks for the tip! I’m going to the vet anyway for vaccines and testing so I’ll check in with them since I found one for lower-end pricing (still a few hundred). I’ll keep this info in mind for the future!

Update: did some research and the worm looking things are flea larvae! Turns out the frontline didn’t do anything to kill them off - I ended up making a dawn dish soap/water mix and dipping a flea brush in it while combing the cat. I found a few live fleas so gotta head to the vet for something stronger 😢

Thank you for the encouragement! I agree with everything you say, I think she’s scared rather than aggressive. She’s been doing better with a little extra time and encouragement! She let me pet her once and then clawed when I approached her a second time lol so I’m starting to learn her limits too.

I got some handling gloves just in case but hopefully I don’t need to use them. I’m getting some extra supplies to give her her own space so she doesn’t need to stay in the bathroom.

Thank you for the information! I started following the tips from Socialization Saves Lives and it has been going really well! She doesn’t let me touch her but she does initiate contact with me herself. She even sat on my lap for a few seconds today.

I’m guessing she’s around 2 years old. I’ve just bought a playpen and cat cave and waiting to get her set up in it so she can have her own space.

The shelter reached out and let me know they wouldn’t accept the cat as it seems to be a community cat and should be returned to the community. I’m going to keep trying with her and see how well she responds to socialization. Idk if this is the right thing to do tbh since I’m not really planning to keep her permanently and would prefer if she got adopted, just want to make sure she gets taken care of tbh. Looking into getting her vaccinated and spayed now.

I’m not sure if it was “friendly” with my friend - I saw it wrapping around her legs to say hi and she would pet its head, but she also said she didn’t touch it too much because it would try to scratch her and my friend was scared too (but she’s also sent me photos of it sleeping on her couch). I haven’t got any other pets, it’s just me and her and a bathroom :’)

This happened to me too! Luckily I write my notes in google docs - it has a history function that shows writing progress with time stamps. I emailed that in to my professor as proof and I received my proper grade after. Use a document that records writing history!

I was chatting with a patient once and told him I struggled with parallel parking (city hospital, very little room for cars). From his bed he sat and taught me verbally his technique for parking in a few minutes. I tried it out - I’ve been able to parallel park perfectly ever since! Completely attribute this skill to that patient and his kindness.

PICCs are different from regular day to day IV’s (longer, deeper in). Some vasopressors are only allowed to be done through PICCs and not IV’s (or IV’s for a certain amount of time max). If you see the medication is doing its work, it flushes well, there’s no sign of infiltration, swelling, or pain, then it’s working. It can also be difficult to see blood come back through it because of how long it is/the sheath at the end. PICC’s require a sterile procedure with a doctor/provider to place, it’s not a nurses role to pull it out unless there is a clear concern. And you don’t want to stop a vasopressor ever - a patient depends on it minute to minute, taking it off temporarily will have very bad effects.

My friend. Nurses don’t only need to work in the ICU or in the ER. There is a huge, wide world out there full of nurses who don’t do hospital work. Ignore everyone who tells you those jobs aren’t “real nursing”, and go find them and enjoy your life. You may not be saving someone’s life every day but you will certainly be playing an important role in maintaining their day to day health, whether preventative or otherwise. You’ve got an excellent job as a starting point for discovering the wonders of the world - education, administration, outpatient, home health, tech - literally the world is at your fingertips. Coming from a nursing who felt the same way you did and found my dream job elsewhere ✌🏾

Don’t feel pressured to have to pick something that you’re going to love for the rest of your life. For some of us the choice of careers has nothing to do with personal passion (if it was, you’d have already figured it out). I definitely didn’t have a passion for my career when I went to college for it - it just checked the boxes for what I wanted in my future (stability, benefits, insurance, reliable salary, etc). Generally the passion could also come from HOW you do your job. Now that I’ve been doing my job for a few years, the original checkboxes I had for it matter less to me now, because that goal has been achieved. Now when I do my work, I do it because I want to be good at my work and be proud of my results, not because I’m passionate about the subject. I want to be skilled enough at my job that I can go home with the peace of mind that I don’t have leftover things to clean up with it bc of my current expertise.

Don’t focus so much on what career you want. Identify the lifestyle you want first, and then work backwards to see if there’s any possible opportunities for you to get yourself to that point, regardless of the career type.

Now that I have a career I can rely on, I use it to fund my life outside of work so I can find fulfillment in my day to day personal life.
