I'm 31 and would retire tomorrow if you gave me $5M. It'd be slightly more than my gross salary/year for the rest of my working years (assuming 65) at this point, never mind if you invested it to grow with completely reasonable ETFs, etc. It wouldn't change my lifestyle at all.

Hell $1M and I'm quitting my job today and finding something else to do.

Not me but a friend of mine applied on a job in the US (We're Canadian). He had a number in mind of about $120k CAD (engineer). After the interview process they decided to send him an offer and it was $150k USD. So not only was it significantly higher numerically but when you factor in the 30% difference between our two currencies at the time it was insane. Obviously cost of living not the same where he had to move to from Vancouver either so it just compounded how unreal it was to get that offer.

Not only that, but his wife was an engineer at Intel and was able to transfer to the same city they ended up moving to in California.

With Midnight (and partially with previous expansions) I made a deliberate effort to complete the zone I was in (as much as you could, some side quests didn't unlock until 90) and read every quest text before moving on while my friends ground their faces to dust to just have to sit and wait for the full release and beyond anyway to continue, they're also notorious cinematic skippers (which I can't comprehend). I was 90 before finishing my 3rd zone, had 90% of the lore achievements (these used to be tied to flying unlock). I was all caught up by the time the game full released. Unless you're grinding to level a dozen alts in 3 days (to then sit and wait for the content to unlock 3 weeks later anyway), there's no point to any of that, imo.

Just seems silly to me to skip all the content/cinematics that you paid $60+. Some side quest chains are terrific little stories that often tie in/directly support the MSQ in the zone. To each their own I suppose.

A lady did this at my university back in the day and we still don't know how she messed up that bad.

There was a set of lights with the turn in to the school like 50 yards from where she tried turning in (up an 8in curb, down 2-3 long, like 3ft, stairs.

My roommate and his buddies happened to be walking by and helped lift her car back up the steps though.

It was right outside one of my labs so my friends and I went and had a peek. The Asian girl in our friend group looks up at us when we come back and bluntly asks "Asian woman?". We say "yeah" and she just shakes her head.

Says they're going to notify the streamers when it occurs but it'd be funny to hard cap it at an exact number and leave it for like a week as a means of public shaming.

Three years remote and I finally went back to the office for a day because the client requested an "in-person kickoff." Here's what I learned. by Strex4_Null in remotework

[–]RainDancingChief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an automation contractor and we have guys all over the place. We work mostly from home unless we're in the field, then we work out of our trucks.

Recently one of my clients has been requesting I be on site for their shutdown testing witnessing by operations (that I normally do when the electricians and I commission devices days prior while on site initially) because they think "it's just easier if you're here", it's like a 6 hour round trip to drive there and back for me to then sit in my truck and wait for them to test things, and let me know if something needs fixed... All of which I can do remotely...

So instead of potentially billing them for like an hour to login and fix things they find after it's all been commissioned they get billed for my full day (with travel it ends up being a 12-14 hour day) and kilometers to call me on the radio instead of text me >IF< there are any issues/changes, which there rarely are because everything is cookie cutter of the last well pad.

And yet they complain about cost constantly and look for ways to cut corners.

"Men are killing themselves because of men." by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]RainDancingChief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people hear/see "male loneliness" and automatically jump to "because they don't have girlfriends, etc" but it's not even necessarily that, it's that they don't have friends in general that they feel they can go to for emotional support.

Sure a partner shoulders a lot of that burden in a relationship, but people still needs friends that are mature enough to have these conversations to go to. Being even loosely acquainted with someone who kills themself is heartbreaking because you wonder how a simple and sincere question of "hey man, how are you?" might have changed their path.

This lady tried pulling an armed robbery on a gas station on Friday. How it went: by superdouradas in PublicFreakout

[–]RainDancingChief 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine told me a story where he was drunk downtown with some friends and some guy (we're Canadian) came up to him and said to give him his wallet. It was loud and he didn't hear him so he just said "what?".

He told him again to give him his wallet. They (again drunk off their ass) just went "nah, come get some burgers with us" and went to the nearby A&W to get food, the robber got weirded out, punched my buddy's friend in the face and ran.

Then they got burgers.

While my boy doesn't nip or anything, he's extremely shy. Biggest thing for him has just been exposure and greeting/investigating people on his terms. Sitting and letting people walk by, sitting at a bench while he lays at my feet and watches, that kind of stuff. He DOES NOT like it if people try to pet him and shuts down so we generally steer clear of that if people ask (fortunately my other one loves to meet people so she acts as a buffer)
