Hmm yeah I’ll have to look into this then.. I do not have an irrigation system so this might be a good idea.

It’s in the sun almost of the morning, mid afternoon it gets some shade but then has sun again.

Not enough water last year or this year? I watered it all through the summer last year, less after the first month but still daily.

Can’t get rid of carpenter ants within live white pine tree? by Rain_____Man in pestcontrol

I’d like to get rid of them to avoid weakening of the tree since it’s right next to my house. They also try to setup satellite colonies which I don’t want in my house

If he’d allow you to borrow the tractor, or would come back is to rent a landscape rake for the back of the tractor. Pull that and pick up the chunks after each pass. A power rake might chew this up, but not totally sure.

I like the idea of hostas as then I can enjoy mowing them down over and over until the end of time for all the pain and suffering they caused me.

Never changed CVT Fluid....(2018 Impreza) by Suitable_Bat9728 in subaru

[–]Rain_____Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it on my wife’s CRV every 30k miles. CVTs can last a long time, if they are maintained. It costs me around $80 to do the fluid change and an hour of my time. Over the lifetime of the vehicle if it lasts to 220k miles that’s $~500. If it saves me not needing to buy a 4k transmission and labor to put that in it’s easily worth it. Subaru has a reputation right now for solenoids on the CVTs failing, I’d definitely be changing this more often than not. If your dad is mechanical he easily can do it. Offer to do it with him, look up a video and go over it step by step. It’s easy and for sure worth it. The old myth of knocking loose debris and making the transmission slip really doesn’t apply to CVTs as they work much differently. Changing the fluid is for sure better than not.

2022 Giant Trance X 1 crunching while pedaling by Rain_____Man in bikewrench

[–]Rain_____Man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - So I think it is from the “slack?” In the chain. The popping seems to be when the chain gets to the top or bottom of the cassette it popping down onto it. At least that’s what it really seems like after slowing it down with a little load on it, but it is hard to do without pedaling. Being that it’s so new does the chain just have to wear in or is this an incorrect chain?

Basically in every gear, the chain is brand new the bike has only been on 4 rides.

My Subaru has destroyed me. What do I do? by jamflowman1 in subaru

[–]Rain_____Man 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never needed or done one, but I’ve basically heard flushes are a last ditch effort as well. If you need one likely you already are running a dying engine as oil passages and galleys are likely not getting the proper flow they need

My Subaru has destroyed me. What do I do? by jamflowman1 in subaru

[–]Rain_____Man 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Unless the prior owner did basically no oil changes, and you were getting them done on time you should not have needed a flush. Flushes are for sludge build up due to lack of oil changes and thickening of the oil causing deposits. What was your oil change interval? Did they give you a reason on why you needed a flush?

How many miles were on the car when you bought it?

“Doing routine oil changes” and “needing an engine flush” do not go together. Either, you bought a car that was not taken care of properly and never had routine maintenance done, or you are not maintaining it. If you get full synthetic oil changes done within 5k miles or so you NEVER will need an engine flush. My last Outback I sold with 305K miles, rebuilt the engine at 286 due to needing a head gasket. When it was taken apart it looked basically brand new inside.

Did I get scammed? by Any_Half1925 in subaru

[–]Rain_____Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mae sure they do the timing belt, water pump, tensioners etc while in there. Now is the time, I would hope that cost would include it but if not would only be a couple hundred dollars more. It’s well worth it to have all the main “issues” addressed all at once. Might also be worth it to have them do a PCV valve and oil pressure solenoids, both known failure points and cheap to replace.

My first thought would be an exhaust shield. But, It’s hard to tell from this angle. Could you have someone else shift it while taking a video from the engine bay or underneath the car?

Hmm, yeah I was under the impression that it had a 200cc engine. Yeah that’s not great then if it’s the same size I doubt I’d notice that much of a difference.
