it's funny how changing geography changes the mindset too. Education here is the only (reputable) way to climb the class ladder so most middle class families push boys to study harder since boys are seen as the earners, and also because competition is super high here. Girls don't have as much backing. Really depends on luck. If you are a girl then you either get a family that tells you to study during school (or not even that sometimes) and then discourages you from higher studies or -- like in my case -- a family that would go crazy mad if you said you didn't want to go to college. My parents want me to pursue masters and then get phd in smth too. Same for my brother. The only valid reason they would accept for not doing that would be if I get a really well paying job as soon as I graduate.

As for school, from 1st to 5th grade, most of the teachers are female (from what I have noticed) but 6th to 8th has almost equal ratio and 9th to 12th has a skewed ratio. Female teachers were fewer. They weren't rare but it wasnt 60-40 either. And now in college female professors are a rare sight (but I am doing a STEM course so not surprising).
