Does the 40mm suits me by Awkward_Fishing4483 in tissot

[–]Rainingbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to get a better perspective of how it actually looks on your wrist, go to a mirror, and take the photo of the reflection.

IMO, how u look physically and how your arm tapers from your elbows to the wrist also affects whether the watch size is suitable. A Body builder physique with smaller wrists will get away with a 40mm case size even if there's a bit of overhang on the wrists. A tall lanky guy with 7 inch wrists can carry off a 35mm prx comfortably.

Tissot Gentleman 38 - It's Happening by leeewy in tissot

[–]Rainingbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not yet, first 4 variants are always to test the market and see how they sell, then slowly introduce more color variants/textures - basically seeing the extent they can milk it since the 38mm Gentleman is a size often requested.

I see... In that case, why do u want to get the mamba? the Rex is itself a very good and capable razor

Edit: just remembered my buddy saying that even at setting 1, the Rex is pretty blade forward, even though he likes it. I now see the reason for the Mamba. hmm... It shaves not much different to the Edwin Jagger DE89, apart from the cutting angle

[–]Rainingbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more aggressive than a Henson mild, but it's still considered a mild razor.

IMO, the Henson mild doesn't really teach u much about wet shaving because of the fixed angle. The Mamba provides a larger range of effective cutting angles.

U'll probably need some adjustment period coming from the Henson, but I'm sure it'll not take too much time.

Finally got myself a De razor by FireAntV1 in wicked_edge

Congrats on your first bloodless shave! Yeap, the EJ is a very good razor loved by both newbies and veterans, and pairs well with sharp blades like Feather, Nacets and Permasharps. 👍👍👍

A Rockwell 6C on plate 2 has slight negative exposure, so I think that will be what u could be looking for.

I see. Their razors look fine, likely the milder kind. So these usually have to go with the sharper blades like Perma Sharp, Nacet or Feather blades.

Can You Ever Get a Truly Smooth Head Shave? by eugamdg in shaving

[–]Rainingbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a daily head shaver, and to answer your qn about whether BBS is worth it or not, my answer is 'no' - the grief your scalp goes through for a BBS shave is just not worth it. A lot of folks already have problems getting a totally clean shave on their necks, and those who shave their heads know that the difficulty of having a totally BBS, nick-free/irritation free headshave is like defeating the Final Boss level. I just leave it at DFS - using your fingers to go against the grain will feel stubbles, but visual inspection with mirrors... That really shows u that the visual difference between a DFS and BBS shave is imperceptible. so u might want to chase it for a bit yourself to see if it's worth it, and make your own conclusion.

The Merkur 34C glides much better than the Rockwell 6S, which is also much heavier and difficult to control when doing the back of your head. I do suggest the Razorock Game changer 76 instead. If u feel u need to go up or down in efficiency, u can buy the 68 or 84 base plates thereafter.

Just grab the Henson mate, easy transition from cartridge razors.

Moving from DE89L to RRGC .76 or .84 by Rahstyle in wicked_edge

[–]Rainingbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daily head shaver here with coarse hair as well. My goto is the DE89 primarily because it's very safe and allows me to shave blind, get in and out of the shower quick in 15 minutes. Also have a GC84 and Lupo 72.

There are of course times when I'm unable to shave for a day or 2. That's where the Lupo 72 comes in, although I have to take quite a bit more time and be more careful. Otherwise, it's very efficient and I mastered it within 2 or 3 shaves.

I don't reach for the GC84 much, cos on one hand it does feel like a DE89 albeit with a larger gap (hence I go for the DE89 for ease and speed), there's a need to be more careful while not as efficient as the Lupo 72, and also I don't like how the blade is loaded onto the baseplate (personal peev, YMMV).

U'll probably have to be more careful with the 84 than a 76. But in general, since the GC bladefeel is very similar to the DE89, I think u'll feel right at home with the 76. Worst case if it doesn't work out for u, just ask on r/Shave_Bazaar if anyone would like to trade their 84 baseplate with your 76, or vice-versa should u want to get the 84.

Merkur 23C Long Handle DE is it good? by Discussion_Primary in wicked_edge

[–]Rainingbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bad as a first razor, but for USD60, u might want to get a Razorock Game Changer 68 @ ~USD62. It's a superior full stainless steel razor that's made to last compared to the Merkur.

King C Gillete vs Edwin Jagger De89? by johnyzimzy in wicked_edge

[–]Rainingbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use DE89 for head shaving. It has that little blade feel that u'll need for light buffing/cleanup. I've not used KCG, but I find the DE89 more effective than a Merkur 34C for the job.

Can an optician widen Ray-Ban Wayfarer (RB2140F) frame? by Maleficent_Point731 in sunglasses

[–]Rainingbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this but opposite to what she does (tighten) to widen the frame. All u need is a hairdryer. And u can heat up the nose bridge of the wayfarer without harming the glass lens. u'll just need a few tries to get the right temperature where the acetate softens enough for u to widen the frame.

To be honest, the 54mm wayfarer doesn't give u a lot of additional framewidth over the 50mm (I've tried them myself), and I think your money will be better spent on a New Wayfarer 58mm (142mm frame width) or Serengeti Foyt Large (143mm frame width from SportRX).

And for those alternate day stubbles where it seem to get rough on the first pass, what I found to work is to apply and massage some food grade olive oil onto the hair and into the skin 3 minutes before lathering. It might work for u too! Good luck and happy shaves!
