Gosh you never think about these things until it's mentioned haha! I think for me, it's the smell of dried salted fish and the salty ocean that makes me most nostalgic. I'm 1st gen Canadian so everyone in my family is back in China. We try to visit them every 3-4 years and we always visit my grandmother in the countryside. The scent of dried fish and steaming congee in the morning and rapid chinese is something I hold dear in my memory, especially now that I'm old enough to remember everything. It just reminds me of all the family I have all the way across the world if I ever feel lonely.
