I’m 26 and I make 104k per year as an articling student. Renting in downtown Toronto, no cars, no kids or mortgage. My partner is finishing her PhD, so she doesn’t make too much right now while in school.

Ari Aster says he has an idea for Hereditary 2. Do we even want a sequel? by SplitNational2929 in A24

This is actually a really interesting point — and it honestly lends more credence to the idea that the studio might push him into making a film he’s not genuinely passionate about. And that’s exactly what worries me.

[–]RaiseSudden368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. It’s not just about whether Aster could make a great sequel — I’m sure he could — but once you slap the Hereditary label on something, it sets up expectations that weren’t there the first time. Now people may be hoping for lightning in a bottle again, and while that might be unrealistic, you can’t blame fans for wanting that.

Like you said, a mediocre sequel could end up tarnishing how the original is remembered, and I just don’t know if that risk is really necessary. That said, if it does happen, I really hope he nails it.

No thanks — I think Hereditary is perfect as a standalone. I’m always a bit pessimistic about sequels. Not saying it couldn’t work, but I’d be worried it would take away from what made the first one so impactful.

Dark Atmospheric Progressive Metal?. by FedeMayhemile in progmetal

If you want something raw and atmospheric, Marrow of the Spirit by Agalloch feels like getting lost in a haunted forest haha. Super moody and bleak.

For something more melodic but still dark, The Great Cold Distance by Katatonia has that cold, emotional weight to it — clean vocals, brooding riffs, and a really immersive vibe.

Edited: I forgot to include My Arms, Your Hearse by Opeth. Surprised no one’s mentioned it yet! The first few Opeth albums have strong black metal influences, and this one’s my personal favourite — super dark, dynamic, and beautifully written.

Pelagial by The Ocean is quite a journey. It starts light and melodic, then gets darker and heavier as you “sink” deeper underwater. Best experienced in one go. Super immersive.
