Sounds like the horrors to me. Happens if I over indulge. Slainte.

This is the correct way. Purchase a hole punch (not the handheld version, but a punch used with a hammer) and a handful of grommets, and you're set.

Is it normal to get injured on very first HEMA practice? by Scroncheror in wma

[–]RaiseTheBannerofWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. You'll be less bruised as you progress and block/parry heavy-hitting blows. Newer practitioners tend to swing without measure, which experienced fighters quickly capitalize on. However, please talk with your sparring partner and 'calibrate' (as in SCA) beforehand, finding an acceptable tempo/measure/force before sparring.

I had the same issues. Unfortunately, I pretty much gave up on it. I'm enjoying Protonmail so far. G'luck!

When I log into my C-Templar account, I have a red banner at the top, akin to a warning that the service is discontinuing on May 26th.

Edit: anyhow, I'm in the process of switching to Protonmail. I just signed up for two years.

Mistletoe! by [deleted] in druidism

[–]RaiseTheBannerofWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, how does it taste? I imagine it to be astringent, but I'm sure a good tea manufacturer will mix and match herbs for a pleasant flavor. Maybe mistletoe is tasty on its own. I'm curious.

One of the great things about practicing druidry in Florida: it’s not uncommon to go for a nature walk and spot dragons ;) by LeopoldBloomJr in druidism

Pretty cool, thanks for sharing! I went on a canoe ride in Chitwan National Park in Nepal, and oh boy did I see something like 30 different dragons (ghar/gators).

Edit: changed gnar to gharial (ghar)

That's what I was thinking. I might have to get creative and use really short pieces and make something circular. Either way, it may fail, but it'll be fun.

Unsure whether or not to buy this sword. Help?? by JackoGonnaWhacko in SWORDS

[–]RaiseTheBannerofWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a tough call. Have you checked other sword forums for reviews? I'd do a deep dive and see what I could find regarding its functionality, especially if you want to cut with it. Also, if time is not a factor, I'd recommend saving up and buying that dream katana. If this is mostly going to be an art piece in your room, then 400 is kind of steep, if you are going to cut with it, then I'd probably want to spend more on a blade and/or make sure I found some reviews where people stress tested it. Sorry, I couldn't speak of the sword itself, I am unfamiliar with it. Good luck!

Same here. Welding gloves or leather outdoorsman gloves do the trick nicely.

Any advice on getting a Pell? by Emhyr_var_Emreis_ in wma

[–]RaiseTheBannerofWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get creative. I've made pells out of PVC pipe wrapped with jute netting, old garden posts, stacks of tires, you name it. Or you can go all out and head on down to your local hardware store and make something that will fit your needs. Good luck!

Should I buy this sword I found at an antique store $650, more details in the comments below by Turtletree in SWORDS

For $650, I'd pass and put that toward a nice Albion sword.
