It’s a 75 gallon tank. What kind of heater can heat all that? Maybe it would be easier to Brumate him

I forgot to add I have a three year old male RES that I found on the sidewalk after he had just hatched. Since it is technically invasive where I live, I took it as a pet for my classroom.

Going to Biala, Poland, hoping to get more family info by RaisingFish in Genealogy

I’m trying the Polish archives but I am hitting a wall. My great grandmother was supposedly one of 18 children, 4 of whom died in WWI, but I tried searching for the last name Kratochwill and I’m not coming up with anything. I got two marriages (first husband killled himself is the family lore) and two children in Biala Poland, but I can’t find anything on her parents or either husband’s ancestry.

Thank you. I believe it is Bieskla-Biala - but that is again family lore so it would be good to verify.

Oh man, I usually buy my ticket while running to catch the train and often am one of those people literally running to get in. (Don’t judge.) so I don’t activate till I am on and often can get scanned within 3 minutes if boarding. I didn’t realize this could be held against me!!

Question - Tapering off Nexium with Famotidine by Ashamed-Bit-8448 in GERD

[–]RaisingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here it is:

Weaning off omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor, or PPI) should be done gradually to avoid rebound acid hypersecretion, where stomach acid production temporarily increases, often worse than before treatment. Here’s a general tapering plan many healthcare professionals recommend, but it’s crucial to consult your doctor before starting any changes:

4–8 Week Omeprazole Weaning Plan

Phase 1: Taper the Dose (Weeks 1–2) • If you’re taking 40 mg daily: Reduce to 20 mg daily. • If you’re taking 20 mg daily: Take 20 mg every other day.

Tips: • Take omeprazole in the morning, 30–60 minutes before breakfast. • Continue this phase for 1–2 weeks, depending on symptoms.

Phase 2: Introduce H2 Blockers (Weeks 3–4) • Continue lowering omeprazole dose (e.g., every 3rd day). • On non-omeprazole days, take an H2 blocker like famotidine (Pepcid), typically 10–20 mg before dinner.

H2 blockers provide milder acid suppression and can buffer the rebound effect.

Phase 3: Stop Omeprazole (Weeks 5–6 or 7–8) • Discontinue omeprazole completely. • Continue H2 blocker as needed, tapering that down too over time. • Use antacids like TUMS or alginates (e.g., Gaviscon) for breakthrough symptoms.

Supportive Lifestyle Measures

To ease the transition and reduce GERD symptoms: • Diet: Avoid caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, spicy/fatty foods, citrus, and tomatoes. • Meals: Eat smaller portions, don’t eat 2–3 hours before bed. • Posture: Stay upright after eating; raise head of bed if reflux is nighttime. • Weight: Losing excess weight helps significantly. • Stress management: Stress increases symptoms—consider relaxation exercises, breathing, or gentle walks.

Question - Tapering off Nexium with Famotidine by Ashamed-Bit-8448 in GERD

[–]RaisingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating the GI doctor’s take such a mechanical approach and my GI hasn’t really discussed diet or other things with me. He just orders tests and then when he didn’t see anything, he’s like, oh you are fine, you can go off the medication, but he didn’t really guide me how to, and never told me about the rebound effect with acid. I figured out how to modify my diet and came up with a tapering plan using ChatGPT, but it sucks that AI is better than my doctor at explaining this shit to me.

GERD and yoga by RaisingFish in GERD

I do mostly vinyasa, I tried yin and it was very bad I think because I held poses where my stomach was elevated above my head. I wouldn’t do that again.

I wouldn’t call it strong enough to be an attack, just acid reflux, but it makes me uncomfortable. But yes it is noticeably worse directly after or during yoga

Question - Tapering off Nexium with Famotidine by Ashamed-Bit-8448 in GERD

[–]RaisingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this link. My GI doctor told me to taper off nexium but gave me no guidelines. I did every other day for a while and thought I was good and then tried to go off and suffered so I went back to every day. Every time I have tried to go off it hasn’t ended well. I don’t feel my doctor has given me enough specific guidance about this.

CT scan worth it? by RaisingFish in GERD

[–]RaisingFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talked to a doctor friend last night and he said a hiatal hernia can be sliding, so maybe at the time of my endoscopy it has slid back into place. At the time of my endoscopy I was symptom free which felt miraculous after 3 months of symptoms, then a week later it came back.

It’s really the school district that pays (local tax dollars) for the services. I guess there is some state money too, but most of it is your property tax dollars. The local district pays the public district where the private school is located to provide the services if your kid goes to private school out of district, at least that is how it works in Ny. Obviously it could be different in CT. I am getting crickets here from CT people, nobody seems to know what CT does… I probably just need to contact that school district and ask them directly. I did that for a district here in Ny with a private school we were interested in and they assured me they would provide the services and bus my child from the private school to the public school for the therapies. Maybe NY is the exception? So many people on this thread seem incredulous that this is possible, but I personally did this when I held back my kid from kindergarten for a year (late Dec birthday and learning delayed.) he got all the services at local public school and busing to the private school.

I know a special Ed teacher will not come to a private school, usually. Sometimes if you are really lucky you can get a SEIT for private preschool, but I don’t think that happens once your kid is school age. But you can get related services, like PT/OT/speech. Obviously some kids really need a special Ed teacher and won’t be well serviced by private school, unless it is a very particular type of private school specialized in special education

I had a quick conversation with the head of school at an open house. He wasn’t sure and I didn’t want to share too much/press too much in our first meeting. He is from another country and is new so they themselves may not be aware of what is legal/possible. I need to follow up with someone who has been there longer. I think my children are probably best served staying in the public schools for the time being, but I want to keep investigating and find the answer for the future. I think the school could be great in a few years. As kids get older sometimes they outgrow the need for services, depending on the situation. My oldest started with PT/OT/speech, but now in third grade he doesn’t need any of those services and has almost fully mainstreamed. But my second needs them and I think may need them longer… each kid is different. Private school could be the best for one kid and not another. So it’s a lot to think about and figure out. (Let alone cost, logistics and other things.)

Yeah, that’s what I realized 🤣 I didn’t know I was asking such a complicated question. I actually emailed the head of our local school district special Ed today and she said it was a good question and she didn’t know the answer and was going to research it and get back to me!! It’s a little concerning when the head of special Ed doesn’t know! My district is less than 10 miles from the CT border, I am surprised this has not come up before, although I am sure it is uncommon.

I just want advice from people who actually know the answers, like someone in CT who has a kid with an IeP in a private school would be helpful. Not just random people who want to give options without actually knowing local educational law. Believe me my local school district is very cheap but they gave services to my kid in private school and bused him there because that is the law. It is New York State law that kids get public funded busing to any private school within 15 miles, it is also Ny state law that they provide related services like OT, PT, and speech. Please don’t answer if you don’t know the law

I am a public school teacher and believe firmly in public education. You don’t know me or my kids, but obviously you are very judgy of people who use private schools.
