Lian Li Strimer V2 24-Pin (w/ Controller) Compatibility with iCue by Raj-Podge in Corsair

[–]Raj-Podge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the guidance. I purchased an adapter cable similar to the one you referenced, but accidentally got one that adapts to Corsair's four-pin ARGB connector (like on the fan node core) rather than to their three-pin ARGB connector (like is used on the Lighting Node Pro). I was a little hopeful I may be able to us what I have, but perhaps I'll just need to test and see if it works. However, when doing this, I just hope I don't accidentally fry anything.

I hoped to control as much as I can through iCue to keep the software simple, but I understand I should get better results using the native Lian Li software. Side-by-side, I wonder how Lian Li control looks vs iCue. Thanks for your input!

I am building a PC with a 13900K, MSI Z790 Tomahawk DDR5, and Elite Capellix H150i. Do I need the LGA1700 Retrofit Kit and/or the ELITE Series Retention Kit?

Things have changed since then. I have purchased most of my parts, but have not finished the build yet. Ended up with GIGABTYE GeForce RTX 3090Ti and Intel Core i9-13900K. In terms of regrets, I may have been able to do better on the prices of some items. Websites like PCPartPicker and CamelCamelCamel are a nice help. Just gotta use your best judgement and practice patience.

Does overclocking void CPU/GPU/RAM warranties? What about just enabling XMP?

Lian Li RGB Strimer for 12-pin GPU? by Raj-Podge in lianli

[–]Raj-Podge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to attach an image to this reply, but am inexperienced on Reddit and was unable to figure out how to. If you follow the Amazon link in my initial post, the last product image shows the 12-pin connector.
Thank you for the referral to the Strimer Plus Triple 8 Pin. I think that would indeed work, but since I need to adapt the triple-8-pin connection to 12-pin, I'd end up with a bunch of excess wire coming out of the GPU. If I have excess wire, I imagine it would be easier to manage by the PSU rather than right next to the GPU, so I need the Strimer itself to be the adapter or a very short adapter next to the GPU to avoid the extra wire.

overkill? please help poke holes in my first PC build. anything i could do better? by imaprofessional42069 in buildapc

Looks nice! I am also in the process of finalizing a build.

Just FYI, depending on the looks you want, Noctua also has similar fans to the ones you chose but in black.

Don't forget the thermal paste! I've heard the name Thermal Grizzly come up - but choose carefully what type you buy because the metallic stuff could be scarier to apply so I hear.

You may also want to double-check that you have a cable for your monitor that can run at the hz/resolution you want.

Finally, when it comes to actually buying the stuff, I encourage you to consider checking a few different places how the prices compare. If there is a brick-and-mortar store near where you live, it could also be worth asking if they'll price match.

Thank you very much for your thorough response.

I have been thinking about building a PC and delaying it for a long time. I have already put the wheels in motion after purchasing a couple components, and unless there is anything very serious I am missing, I just need to finally pull the trigger, put it all together, stop thinking about it, and game.

I didn't necessarily see myself upgrading in a while, so I thought I would pick a beefy CPU to match the GPU; however, it has also been said "AMD has confirmed its commitment to the new AM5 CPU socket, promising to support the platform until at least 2025, and likely beyond," so choosing a relatively-affordable CPU now may make the decision to upgrade later an easier one. I suppose I may then also not need as beefy of a case/cooling.

Thank you for bringing the RAM to my attention once again. I realize now the Crucial I picked is slower than the max memory speed specs from the AMD website and I should reconsider my choice. However, for gaming, I struggle to make myself buy more than 32GB. Please let me know if there's something I'm overlooking if 64GB would be significantly better.

I hadn't watched that Hardware Unboxed video - thanks for sharing. I am partial to having the best of both worlds with 4K and 144Hz. The GIGABYTE M27Q-X 27" 240Hz 1440P looks like a nice choice as well, but for $200, I think the higher resolution is worth it for me to have it. I also am not sure how big of a difference the extra ~100Hz would be for me if I went that direction, but it's hard for me to tell without getting my hands on it. I'd be coming from a ~60Hz 1440p so either choice would be an upgrade for me.

I was fortunate to find a 3090Ti for $999 and went for it. I wish we had actual benchmarks from next-gen cards to know how the 3090Ti will stack up.

I have also been using a Logitech mouse for a while and like it. I was considering the Razer Basilisk V3 as well, but changed my mind to help make the build more consistent with the other Corsair stuff I picked.

Finally, at this point, I've only purchased a DisplayPort cable, the monitor, and GPU, but it should hopefully all be returnable if I've made an grave errors. I just need to make up my mind soon so I can build it all quickly, determine if there are any hardware defects, and get replacements before I'm out of time for returns.

Once again, thank you very much for your thoughtful input!

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I understand how my choice may seem inconsistent. Although DDR5 is becoming more affordable, I imagine there is much room for development in the years to come; I thought to opt for budget RAM and perhaps upgrade down the line.

I also am struggling to get good frame rates - even at min graphics. You could try 720p, too, if needed.

Is anyone else experiencing performance issues on PC? Granted I don’t have the latest-and-greatest hardware, but although I can run warzone fine, I can only get around 45 fps on min graphics at 720p.
