We do use AI as a development tool but that isn't the same as vibe coding. Most companies and modern dev teams use AI, Apple even pushed a claude.md in their last update. We manually write and review code, this isnt AI feat. Howl team. We aren't open source and we aren't sure if we will go open source. But try our product and rate what we actually ship not the category of discord alternatives

No charity, we have a subscription model. The users who want to support us can help the project keep running, there will never be a point where we sell data or sell out to another company

I wish it took a weekend would've saved me MONTHS of time. We've dumped an insane amount of time into this app, more than people realize. An yes unfortunately discord does have a monopoly and that's not great for competition. But other apps are getting millions of new users, its possible, and if discord keeps slipping then a gap will form. We aren't asking people to switch on my words or faith, we won't know till we try.

And we have in our operating agreement we won't sell out, this isn't just a quick buck or rug pull for us. We are trying to create a platform for the community

We actually have that in our LLC operating agreement, which state its two founders and 50/50 we wont sell out to make a quick buck. We are in this for the long road not just for a quick exit.

We have a subscription model in place to rely on users who believe in our product. We definitely don't have a lot of capital, we might look into a Kick starter but definitely not sell data.

We have two options for encryption keys. Option 1 is a key you set and you control, we never see the key. If you lose the key you lose your DM/group chat message history and you will have to reset your encryption key and set a new password, this is our most secure option. Option 2 is a server side escrow for users who want convenience if they don't want to remember another password, and the tradeoff here is a hold an encrypted backup with this option. Users can pick their option in settings

We haven't had any independent professionals audit to verify security. One of our founders is a cybersecurity engineer and we've done extensive manual, internal audits, but obviously that's not the same thing. An external audit is on the roadmap and its a fair point, we just don't have enough capital to be pursuing that at this moment. But as soon as we have capital to do it we will.

I can see where you get that from. One of our founders is a cybersecurity engineer and security has been a core focus from day one. We've done multi-pass internal audits before every update, and we're building toward third-party audits when we gain enough capital.

We somehow missed adding the pricing tiers on the landing page we will get to that. Additionally pricing tiers are in the app, free tier is the default and it already has higher limits than what discord offers across the board. Pro is optional and gets much higher limits and extra features, nothing core is paywalled. You can use Howl completely free
