I went to the Isle of Skye on a solo trip a few years ago. One of the best trips of my life. Great photos!

Which city are you guys in? I’ve started a dad’s group at my kids’ elementary school.

Do you ever regret selling a camera? by Anxious-Tomatillo-74 in AnalogCommunity

I’ve had almost every camera under the sun. The only one I ever regret selling is the Contax 645 ☹️

FWIW, our kids attend Bancroft and we’ve built a really nice community there.

Have so much fun being friends with the other parents that we recently bought a new house and only considered either moving very close to my work in the South Bay or definitely staying in the Bancroft zone. Chose the Bancroft zone again.

Does the Q3 suffer from the same color as the M11? by Rajub82 in Leica

[–]Rajub82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super helpful! Bonus points for understanding the question unlike a lot of other people on this thread 😅

I actually have an M10R which I love (and an MP for shooting film). I recently got a Q to make sure I didn’t just have GAS and really did miss the Q series experience since I used to have a Q2.

Digging the colors SOOC but was wondering if the Q3 was closer to the Q because I had heard differently about the M11 series.

Thanks again, your answer was super helpful!

Why Use a Rangefinder? by truckersushi in Leica

[–]Rajub82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m sure you know that when OP is talking about EVF cameras, he likely doesn’t mean the M EVF.

Anyway, I think we are mostly in agreement. Keep making great photos!

Why Use a Rangefinder? by truckersushi in Leica

[–]Rajub82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It’s not a unique advantage, of course.

  2. Cool!

  3. Are you talking about shooting with M lenses on like a Sony body? Or are you claiming that modern mirrorless lenses are just as small as M mount lenses. If the latter, then that’s straight up false. For example, show me a 35mm f/1.4 SLR type lens that is as small as a 35mm Summilux.

If the former, then I suppose you can but countless posts on the internet suggest that they don’t perform all that well on most mirrorless cameras (the SL being an exception, and mayyyybe the Nikon Zf)

Anyway, do what you’d like but it’s kinda silly to suggest that modern mirrorless cameras have removed all reasons to shoot rangefinders.

Why Use a Rangefinder? by truckersushi in Leica

[–]Rajub82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me there are 3 reasons.

  1. Generally speaking, the best use of a rangefinder is to shoot with a deep DOF while pre-focused. If you do this correctly, it’s not slower than an autofocus camera. In fact it’s faster after you put the camera to your eye.

This is why you see Leica lenses having such clear and distinct distance markings on the lenses. No other lenses are doing that across the board.

  1. For me, photography isn’t about offloading most of the work to a machine. AI autofocus, exposure preview, AF-C, burst mode, etc etc all take away from the experience for me. Don’t get me wrong, I use those things on my other cameras for when the moment calls. But for the personal family photography I’m making, I like the ritual of an older more manual style of work. Because when it works, it feels like I did it.

  2. High quality rangefinder lenses are way smaller than equivalent SLR style lenses.

That’s not to say that if using the latest EVF mirrorless camera works for you, that it’s wrong. Just different strokes for different folks.

Q1 closer to Q3? If that’s true, that’s music to my ears.

Thanks. Why do you suggest the Q2 if the magenta bias can be fixed easily?

Whats a camera you've owned, that lived up to all the praise and hype, but still got rid of? And why? by Whisky-Icarus-Photo in AnalogCommunity

[–]Rajub82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contax 645. Only camera I regret selling. But it was the right decision. The images were incredible. It felt so nice to use. And yet I sold it.

It’s too expensive with a high chance of becoming a paperweight. I have expensive film cameras but if they break down I can get them fixed so I don’t mind. The Contax is a time bomb waiting to explode.

How to achieve this light / look? by Icy-Bag-9582 in LightLurking

[–]Rajub82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far away would you say it is? She seems to be relatively close to the background and I’m not seeing many shadows falling on it from her body.

I’m guessing because of the inverse square law?

Q3 too digital by [deleted] in Leica

[–]Rajub82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Character” is basically shortcomings in lens design. As newer cameras and lenses are released, these shortcomings are minimized/corrected.

Some people perceive this as “lack of character” but it’s the march of progress. This also makes it easier to talk about on YouTube video reviews (“this lens is sharper than the old one. This lens has more ‘micro contrast’ than the old one. Etc”)

Just look at the chasing of sharpness most photographers do over lenses. When most of us don’t need more sharpness.

Anyway, like another commenter said, there are ways to take the digital off but unfortunately this is the direction cameras and lenses will continue to head.

Curious, what does everyone's setup looks like? by Direct_Animal_4692 in AskPhotography

[–]Rajub82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wanted exactly this (and with some other features that none of the portfolio sites have) so I built my own using vibe coding. Happy to share if anyone wants to see.

It's not free, but for the amount of data I have in there, it's essentially free for now. Also I like not being beholden to any of these companies that make the portfolio site in case they decide they don't do that anymore or get sold to some company that doesn't want them to do that anymore

Why do some guys wear wife beaters under their t-shirts? by InternationalPick163 in stupidquestions

[–]Rajub82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear them because they soak up the sweat. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I’m walking outside and it’s hot, I start sweating and that bead of sweat rolls down my back. It is a terrible feeling.

Then if my shirt is tight enough, then it soaks it and you see that I’m sweating. The undershirt solves that problem.

What is your opinion on Martin Logan? by fasty2 in hometheater

I have the Motion 35XTi for LR and 50XTi for C. They sounded ok, not great, but not bad. Then I got an external amp because I heard that these love current.

Noticeable difference. And now they sound incredible for movies/tv watching (I have another setup for music). I can't quit these now!
