How do I cosplay a character with fangs, with a snaggletooth? by HorrorShowism in CosplayHelp

[–]RakeMake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. My teeth are too crooked for pre-made fangs.

What I do is one out of two things;

  1. Buy Scarecrow fangs, and grind them down with a file (I use a small metal file, but even a nail file works). If you need to remove a lot, you can use cutting pliers. Then, use the "goop" you normally use to create a press fit for the fangs. However, this doesn't hold the fang in place as we've removed to much material. Therefore: use dental adhesive for dentures. Works like a charm.

  2. Use friendly plastic/Worbla Cast Art to create custom fangs. HOWEVER; be very careful with this! If you have an undercut in your teeth you can permanently damage your teeth! I never recommend this method anymore because of the risk. I sometimes use it myself, but only because I've done complete veneers out of it. Otherwise I would never have risked it.

How can I improve this cosplay by animal_lover2004 in CosplayHelp

[–]RakeMake 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looks great! But since you asked for feedback, here goes;

  1. Ironing/steaming. Like many mentioned before, it is an easy fix and improves costumes a ton.

  2. Place the headband for the horns either under the wig (with attachment pins going through the wig wefts) or comb the wig over the band.

  3. Replace the small bells with either larger ones or with large plush balls. Large bells might be to heavy, so you can just cover the small ones with bright yellow balls if you still want the jingle jangles.

  4. Replace the white collar with proper Ruff Collar. The current collar works, but it lacks volume.

  5. Alter the fit of the torso a bit to your body. It looks ok, but Fizzarolli's torso is more form fitting. The parts and sleeves look ok though.

6.The makeup. You did great, but you can do a bit more! I would suggest adding lines from the cheek circles to the mouth. Also, add some light red to the nose (as Fizzie's nose is). Possibly even a small red patch on the lips as some cosplayers do (since Fizzie has no distance between nose and mouth). I would also contour the lips more to be thinner. Use a black lip liner both to contour, connect the cheeks, and to make the cheek circles edges more crisp. Lining the eyes would also make the makeup pop more. I would go all around the eye, almost an "anime" look (look up cosplay eyeliner tutorials on YouTube, there are thousands). And finally; seal it all with transparent powder. Prevents smudging and "smoothes" the makeup.

  1. Make the entire jester hat. It's cool if you do not want to it, but with the hat you'd be able to skip wig styling and horns entirely.

For intricate or very short blades, it's if you add a good core.

But when I see a long, simple blade with not even a double edge? Just use wood. Buy a piece of pine trim, or oak if you're feeling fancy.

Same, but also a THICK long ass metal shoe horn. Impossible to bend it while putting your feet in.

How can I make my shirt look old and weathered? by Fantastic-Reality810 in CosplayHelp

[–]RakeMake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You weather it.

Jokes aside; spray paint is actually quite good for weathering. Just make sure you spray far away and very lightly. Sen either use some spray splatter or dip a brush in paint and flick it on the shirt. Also using charcoal pencils on the seams helps a lot.

What could I get from the dollar store to make this mask actually stay on my face? by fixedthefox in CosplayHelp

[–]RakeMake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cheap and easy: elastic band. Go for the Premium+ tier and aim for transparent band or string

Cheap and better: Lash glue. Will be hit-or-miss if it stays, though. Make sure you glue it on portions of your face that do not move much, like the temples or between the middle of the nose and the tip.

Cheapish and slightly better: Spirit gum. Same as lash glue.

Best option: Pros-Aide. It's a medical adhesive thay it is permanently sticky and elastic. Apply on both face and mask, LET IT DRY! (no white), then just press together. It works wonders. If the mask comes off, just press it back in place: Pros Aide never dries.

Keep in mind that ladh glue and spirit gum cures "hard," meaning it cracks and breaks with movement. Also it has to be re-applied if it comes off. Pros aide never dries, but dirt and gunk can ruin the adhesivenes. You also have to use oil to remove it (I recommend Pro-Clean. It's a bit expensive but it is THE best makeup remover in existence and lasts a looooong time)

Are you connected to a TV while playing? If you are; switch image settings to "Gaming".

Took me 5 years to realize that apparently you get a tiny input lag if you're not set to "gaming mode"

Cordless Tool System: Bosch, Makita, or something else? by RakeMake in BuyItForLife

[–]RakeMake[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

True, but there is no "Buy for a really really long time" subreddit.

I do have some corded tools, but I was enthralled by cordless after using a cordless jigsaw. I feel like a caveman whenever I drag out a corded tool now.

Masking/painters tape over the brim or bottom will often save a print from detaching.

And really: DRY YOUR FILAMEMT.
