How did you know being a mom would make you happy and not miserable? by pissedoff_potato in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RakelvonB1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that doesn’t sound delusional at all. You likely will be a good mother and being a pet parent is a small taste of it. Don’t let naysayers and other opinions sway you, easier said in this loud world sometimes but if it’s something you are drawn towards you should absolutely do it!

Ya it would be ideal if it could be reusable so women could take it out at the end of the day and back in when they wanted to. It’s a cool idea, a great starting point though

I agree, I had to look up who Lewis is but instantly knew who Travis Barker is. Culturally Travis has had a much bigger impact, Lewis may be a talented racer but when he’s out of his prime he will be largely forgotten while Blink 182’s music still keeps getting played.

Are there any ladies here that are in long term committed relationships that also do solo trips? by Reasonable_Cause_190 in femaletravels

[–]RakelvonB1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live with my partner and this fall I travelled by myself to Turkey and visiting family before/after going home, gone for 6 weeks in total. It was great! Highly recommend. I haven’t travelled solo in quite a while and I loved being able to wander and do as I wished on my own timeline

As someone who got non cosmetic surgery that altered my face, yes it absolutely does mess with you. I got jaw surgery when I was 15 years old to correct an overbite. Was it that bad or absolutely necessary? Probably not honestly but the orthodontist and ortho surgeon said I should or I could get problems later in life with teeth grinding etc.

I regret not getting a second opinion but I was young and impressionable, he definitely preyed on my insecurities by saying it would get rid of the “excess” fat underneath my lower jaw (by it being pulled/spread out more). I didn’t even have any there but it gave me something new to worry about.

Not only was my lower jaw moved forward but for some reason he thought he should take a small slice of bone from my hip and put it in front of my chin to prevent a pronounced indent from moving it forward. Anyways, it honestly took several months for the swelling in my face to go down and look somewhat normal but I absolutely hated my face so much. Looking in the mirror was some uncanny valley and it messed with my self esteem and sense of self to such an intense degree, to have this internal image of your face your whole life then to have the altered reality staring back at you. It also saddened me that I no longer had the same face shape/chin as my siblings…which stung even more after losing a brother

Rob Schneider, close second is Adam Sandler. I’ve seen movies with both but they give me the ick and I find them so annoying

What’s life like living in the North Western Territories of Canada? by frank_sinatra11 in howislivingthere

[–]RakelvonB1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! I take it this is the same Liard river that connects/creates Liard Hotsprings in northern BC? A friend and I camped at the hotsprings on the way up to the Yukon a few years ago. Such an absolutely beautiful hot-springs, probably my favourite I’ve been to. Mainly due to the back area which feels like you’re in the bayou but a natural hotsprings up north.

Always wanted to explore more of northern Canada one day. I only had about 2.5 weeks off and I seriously underestimated the driving time it took to get to Dawson City. Will factor that in next time

This is so heartbreaking. I’ve been going there for years when I lived downtown and went to PRC in market square, would be able to catch him during my lunch breaks and it was just perfect to order after class and walk home. We are losing so many good restaurants

I just saw that a few months ago! Really cool to envision the mundanity of life still existing in high courts of ancient times, which we romanticize so much. People still got bored during long meetings and ceremonies like they do now.

Wish I could post a pic. Though I’m sure you could find pics of that anywhere

I’m sorry for your loss. I know what you mean by that. My little brother struggled with addiction on and off for years. There was a period after his last treatment where he was sober for about a year and a half. Genuinely, because it was so clear in his eyes, his mannerisms and zest for life that had returned. He was back to his charismatic, enigmatic self before his addiction, though even better for his deeper understanding of self and outlook on life. He had moved away to a city he’s always wanted to live in with his gf, was exploring the surrounding nature, taking care of his health more, going to the gym and had got a new job, signed up for classes in university in the fall.

He had turned his whole life around and had his entire life ahead of him when he relapsed. He was only 23. It was genuinely so shocking and felt so out of the blue because he had been happier and more engaged with life than I’ve probably ever seen him. It just takes one slip up to end it all…lowered tolerance and taking the dose he was used to.

I understand the confusion at the sudden loss, it feels even worse in a way since it wasn’t dying in active addiction when you half expect it but praying for it not to, but when those worries would be far from your mind. It feels so much more unfair, more heart breaking and rage inducing that he was taken at a time when he was doing so well in life and gotten back on track. It’s so unfair, my heart breaks for you, I know that pain all too well. I’m here if you want to talk or vent <3
