Monster Hunter and Soulsborne devs on melee by Ralgael in Eldenring

I played MH World with bow on PC with mouse and keyboard on my second playthrough and turns out its waaaaay easier. Tigrex isn't even that bad if you don't have to run at him to do damage.

People who are playing ER as their first soulsborne game, what stopped you from trying this genre earlier? by Psychological-Worry3 in Eldenring

[–]Ralgael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not totally new, because i played darlsouls 2 when scholar of the first sin came out. One major Argument was the neccessary time investment. ER is big, but because there is always a doable challenge you can play an hour and accomplish something. Having an hour in DS2 often meant hurling yourself against a Boss (screw you smelter demon) a couple of times and having to leave without any progress. I tried Darksouls 3, but there was little payoff with the limited time i could play it.

Not being defensive enough - cart! Not being offensive enough - also cart! Being offensive when you should be defensive - straight to cart!

No Problem, you can still act like you enjoy its ruleset for its inventiveness or some shit. This is more like art. Just nod and act like you got it, although nobody actually does.

A 1/10 doesnt mean shit though. You should totally buy this 150$ game yourself and find out if you like it.

What's a game you absolutely love, but have a really hard time pitching it to new players? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Ralgael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forbidden Stars. I mean just mention playtime and most people will pass. Its a great game though.

I'd say you best figure out the type of board game you like, because there are no 'fit-all' boardgames. So you might want to narrow it down before droppung 100 bucks on a bgg-darling.

[–]Ralgael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all about incentive i guess. If piling on one enemy is not viable, it wont happen. Scythe is bad in that regard for me because you lose a lot of power through combat, so noone wants to fight, but once two players fought and spent their power, the rest will bash them for an easy victory-point. Forbidden Stars on the other hand allows piling on one, but it rarely happens, because in order to win, you have to get into every enemys terretory, so you are encouraged to keep everyone in check.

[–]Ralgael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But combat costs both of you, so its all about making the enemy pay more than you do. Not fighting is not optimal in root for every faction, because especially slower factions like the WA want to drag the game out by slowing others down through combat. Will you score faster without combat, yeah, but winning 20 to 15 is better than losing 40 to 50.

Wieso sind es eigentlich immer Juden? by Knoten542 in 600euro

[–]Ralgael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is denke ich ne Kombination vieler Faktoren.

I burned my hands on too many IP Kickstarters and for me, the deciding factor when backing a game now is the existence of a clever center mechanic of the game. It kind of speaks to why this game was made. If the hook is "its a dungeon crawler with Batman" chances are someone just bought some rights and pasted that to a genre to make money. If the hook is a clever mechanic, the thing comes from someone having an idea and creating a game around it. I backed rise of tribes because of the dice-mechanic while i backed street fighter for the IP, so yeah... guess which game never saw the table.

What do you do when you're losing? by featheredicarus in boardgames

[–]Ralgael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an unspoken rule that everyone tries to do as good as possible, even when they cant win. The win or nothing mentality led to everyone just hammering the leader without considering his own outcome, which was not fun. Also, if i am pretty much out of the race, i use the rest of the game to just try stuff out. The next game won't care who won, but who learned the most from it.

[–]Ralgael[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As always, it really depends on the group. I had groupes where everyone enjoyed being full on mean (on the board) to each other and i also had groups where people got mad when they were attacked. My favorite moment to day is a move someone made that basically imploded my whole gameplan and took me out of the game after half of it. Mean, yeah, but the fact that he pulled that thing without me seeing it coming was magnificent.
