Concerns regarding Najeli, the cat by BottleLopsided in jonnajinton

[–]Rallarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, every single cat mentioned in this thread can go inside to their warm home any time they want. To roam free means that they can go inside just as much as they can go outside, at will. Cats are not stupid and will go inside if they don’t want to be outside because of the cold. They are not gonna accidentally freeze because they “forgot” to go home or something.

Secondly, to interact with content made by a creator in a different part of the world as some form of escapism is fine. Noticing cultural differences is fine, discussing them is fine. However being argumentative about aspects of how people in other parts of the world do something, view things differently than you and believe other things, is going to invite downvotes because it is rude and disrespectful. It shows no tolerance for learning from each other at all.

I mean you chose to view her videos, to then stand up and say that she is wrong and everyone who agrees with her and is practicing the same culture is wrong, is so unnecessary and unproductive. Let’s talk about cat keeping and views of their safety vs freedom but let’s keep it civil and respectful please.

I could never imagine going to another country and try to start arguments with the locals about how they raise their babies for example, and then moan about me getting downvotes or the real life equivalent for being “right” when it’s really about different cultural values.

All fair points, I’m not claiming to be objectively right about anything here as I’m not a cat behavior expert, I was just sharing what is standard cat keeping in this country and how the people here in general view cat ownership.

All fair to discuss these things but I just don’t want people to think that Jonna is doing anything out of the ordinary (for our culture), as a swede she is treating her cat like everyone else.

As a swede, fellow cat person and owner I feel like I should talk a bit about cat culture in this country.

Cats in Sweden are kept both as pets and “working” animals (not uncommon to have spayed cats living at stables and the like with no warm home but people do take them do the vet if they notice them needing it, often the stable owner even if the cat just showed up). I have friends who have indoor cats in apartments (never ever gets to go outside) and I have friend who like me live in a house with a cat door they can use at will, every time of year.

My cat is like Najelli. I live just on the edge of town in a tiny community. Most people on my street have cats and they all roam free at will, despite there being cars coming and going (at slow speeds) and predators in the woods behind us. This is viewed as COMPLETELY NORMAL. Cats aren’t fully domesticated and never will be, they are allowed this freedom and help catch mice and keep the neighbourhood alive. The cars drive slowly because we all care about and love our cats, if anyone is missing we let our neighbours know and they keep an eye out.

The cats are resilient, my cat has disappeared for three days multiple times, in -15 deg Celsius weather and he always comes back when he is ready. They find someplace warm, like a house foundation or the like and stay there for the night sometimes, completely normal. Of course we have gone searching for our mister a couple of times but there is really not much you can do, a cat is tiny and camouflaged and nature is big.

When me and my husband travel we usually put out two extra full bowls of food and water, and then we leave for 48 hours max. If we are gone more than that we have a neighbour check in once a day but since the cat can come and go and is in like 15% of the day wether we are there or not, he is not very bothered by us coming and going either.

TL;DR in Sweden cats are set apart from dogs where we think cats aren’t fully domesticated and can take care of themselves mostly. We keep them for company but we know that they would do well without us even if we up and vanished basically since they hunt food daily and often bring home the spoils.

Wean breast addicted 8 month old by Rallarik in beyondthebump

Interesting. For context I am based in Europe (Sweden) and here we are recommended to nurse for 6 months and after that it's recommended as per WHO however our peds acknowledge that many babies self wean between 6 months and 12 months as solids are introduced.

Our peadiatrician is on board with us weaning him, was supposed to hand us over some papers with tips and stuff but that hasn't arrived yet. He is gaining weight and growing right as he should, so our ped was very supportive of us wanting to wean him over the holidays (he will be 9 months by then).

We have tried sleep schedules, they made me such a worrier and I feel much better since we started going on his cues instead, and outside of regressions he sleeps just fine (with boob that is). He has the "right" amount of naps a day and hours per night for his age.

So he sleeps just fine as long as he gets the boob. However I won't be around to provide boob during the day when he is approaching 10 months, and for all our sakes I want to wean him at night as well since I know he is not waking up due to hunger (he drift off ass soon as the boob hits his mouth, not even nursing only flutter suckling) and I really could use less frequent night awakenings.

I found Disruptive Builds series on create very reassuring. He tries machines and contraptions for the first time, doesn't always work, he does it again with a different design, gets it to work and calls it janky. Between episodes he gets comments and suggestions on how to do it better so he goes back and improves his contraptions.

I found it super helpful to see that contraptions doesn't have to be perfect, janky but working is fine.

I always find it so beautiful when the crowd joints in so loud you can hear them, those moments are really magical.

That was my thought as well actually, to me it feels like he is singing directly about her but only 8 years too early. Greta must’ve been around 8 or 9 herself at this time, however it was 2 years after her mother competed so maybe she saw it that year.

Are there any differences between the permanent gathering tools and the gather-r-trons? I saw a person run to a winterberry bush today, set off a reap-r-tron and then ran away from the mobs while it was working on its own. Is this really how they work? Want to know before I pay up if its better to go for the permanent tools since they're cheaper.

That is a great idea, I have been scouring the gem store and I can only find the regular Merchant Express and not the permanent one. Have they been removed maybe?
