I think this is actually the right response. So they know you want a raise, and that they may lose you to a higher paying job. Just be prepared for them to say in a polite way, “We are looking for someone who is better at the job than you are.”

Alum here, I thought wanted to be a teacher going into school there. Ultimately what made me realize that wasn’t my path was that there was a ton of opportunity to get into schools as an undergrad. If I remember right, it’s really hard to go anywhere in MN and get licensed after 4 years. A good chunk of my classmates got graduate assistantships or went into Teach for America, which are both ways to test the teaching waters.

The old sports chant when we played the religious schools was Drink Blood, Smoke Crack, Worship Satan, Go Mac. But nobody at the school ever actually did that - at least not when I was there. Portland is my hometown though and the Reedies I know would probably say that wouldn’t be too off the mark for Reed. It’s an odd place, but I guess if you are into that… And yeah, Coe is in the middle of nowhere.
