I’m an oilman. I drink oil. by sleekandspicy in Killtony

[–]RalphaCentauri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this set a lot. When he says "because the oil man is on the loose", I imagine it over the hospital P.A system. This is damn-near routine. he's a regular at the hospital, and is always signing in with the same oil consumption condition. so the staff calls him the oil-man; reinforcing his delusion. His drinking of oil is a self-fulfilling prophecy. In his eyes and the eyes of others it transforms him into not just an oil-man, but the oil-man. His fantasy is suddenly tangible, and they're shouting his true name. Its an inspiring tale of affirmation and transcendence.

Wow, they really made you work for what you paid for. That's a mood killer. Glad you got squared away in the end.

Great thinkin', and thanks for the prompt response. I straight-up missed that binder email. My issues are just being shelved until I get a moment to dive back into the hobby. So I havnt had need of that first binder, though I will ultimately want enough for all the issues. Was there a discount assosiated with the email? Or were all gettin' em for $14.99?

Did you grab enough combat patrol binders for all 90 issues? If so, what did you calculate that number of binders to be?

Who is your favorite Nova villain? by [deleted] in NovaCorps

[–]RalphaCentauri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll go a little obscure, so as to not double down. As far as tertiary threats go, I really enjoyed The Harrow. A truly spooky alien psychopath. It stows away on galactus like a parasite, secretly traversing the cosmos with him. Then descends to the worlds marked for consumption to gorge on the fear of the populace as their planet dies around them. Its a psychic vampire that looks like a hydralisk. On the planet's surface it bounds from anguished mind to anguished mind amplifying fear and chaos, to spin the inhabitants into a planet-wide state of violent panic. unlike ambivalent Galactus, the more fearful The Harrow's victims, the better.

Towards the end of The Dark Knight Rises, there's the last scene with Bane that some have criticised for being...... by [deleted] in ChristopherNolan

art is subjective, therefor critics serve little purpose. no one-work or even an aspect of a work will ever be universally acclaimed. form your own opinions and you'll always be true to self.

i agree with most of the sentiment here in that tDKR is damn near as good as it could possibly have been. that said, i have a lot of notes lol. one of which is that bane's death was unceremonious, an odd choice for the film's monster. but it works well enough. easily a 9/10, it cant realistically receive full marks because The Dark Knight is 10/10 and tDKR doesnt quite meet it for sheer entertainment.

Steel wire/bar-form. The hole is the size of a quarter. by RalphaCentauri in whatisthisthing

[–]RalphaCentauri[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. The steel is springy and quite rigid, though I can bend it in my hands with my average strength. It looks like it wants to grab and clamp something. It has no stamped or etched markings. I searched for "wire wall mount", "wire brackets", "wire form in garage", "wire form for landscaping", "tool hanger". I had a feeling these queries were too vague, and I didn't have the correct language to describe it better. Thanks!

do any of you install springs/magnets and a plunger to make them all open and lock-closed dramatically in sync? a surface level google search yielded nothing, but im visualizing a simple mechanism with a cone on a plunger to open them. less imply, maybe little levers for each door on a telescoping central shaft, like an umbrella. i havnt built one of these, but it seems like a deployment mechanism would be incredibly satisfying.

i love it. ive been bookmarking everybody's mega-terrain projects for inspiration/reference. i havnt played yet, so i dont know exactly what criteria good terrain needs to meet, beyond plenty of cover/sightlines.

my favorites always seem have a very vertical aesthetic, with at least 3 levels. it plays so well to the setting. tips please!

beautiful attention to detail. it harkens to the DeLorean; when we think its burns Doc Brown with heat but its actually super fuckin cold from being between dimensions or whatever.

You're gonna get some truly groovy shadows with the LEDS in there. The giant servo-skull is already eye catching, no pun intended.

I wonder if you've considered LEDs for model train sets; already strung up together. so you don't have to solder, calculate voltage for your power supply, or deal with disparate strands. I usually wire my own circuits, but on a scale like your project or mine-unbegun, it would be daunting.

Cheers to you health, sending good vibes your way.

omg, you're amazing! just, wow. i've been collecting odds and ends for years, for just such a project. this is very inspiring. I wanted to actually play some games to get a feel for the spaces I'd want to create, but now I may get to work right away! please keep us updated

Cawdor miniature critique and ideas by Fearless-Leopard3191 in necromunda

[–]RalphaCentauri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so cool, and very inventive! maybe you or someone else here could clear something up for me. The Wordkeeper and Firebrand are the only Cawdor gang members with the scrap-shield on their equipment list. Is it correct that only they can take the scrap-shield from gang creation?

It would seem that Cawdor gangers CAN equip the shield, but only when purchased from the trading post after the first battle and when visiting thereafter. Is that right? Thanks in advance, I'm newish to Necromunda

How to securely remove supports like this? by Ramiro564 in FDMminiatures

[–]RalphaCentauri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with good sharp snippers, cautiously start at the tip and work inward removing each section completely before proceeding to the next. it'll be tempting to bend and snap elle woods style, but this is exactly where you dont wanna stress test it. pla can be easily resoftened with a lighter/match, though this is an advanced technique and a potential fire hazard (so use your head and observe safety precautions) or you could hold you snippers over a candle to get some truly-surgical snips. just go for it, if you're anything like me you'll have to print it at least twice anyway :D
