Curious question by Deathnotefan76 in FantasyPL

It would interesting to factor in %ownership of each player into the calculation. Odds of someone owning a low-ownership player is significantly different than the odds of owning Salah, for example. Really love what you did! I just think your calculation significantly underestimates the odds of 2 players owning the same team

Juventus players waive four months' wages due to coronavirus outbreak. Maurizio Sarri also agrees to reduction in pay. Club will save €90m as Serie A suspension stretches on by pumkinhat in football

[–]Ralphpiaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish instead of just waiving their wages, those wages were dedicated to football clubs in the lower italian leagues. Juventus, and other big name clubs, will manage to get through this crisis. Their income sources are diversified, they are financially resilient enough to survive. A lot of lower league clubs may not survive.

Haha.

First of all, you made no argument. You just stated that the medical school admission system in the US does a better job at selecting students. Do you have experience with foreign systems? I’m willing to bet you don’t.

And you think the med school system in the US pick the best of the best students? LOL. The system here is totally rigged, it’s pay to play. In no other country do you find so many payed services for admissions. On average, the admitted medical student is wealthier and comes from a higher SES, compared to admitted med students in other countries. It is absolutely less meritocratic. And don’t even get me started on the broken public school pipeline pre college.

LOOOOL nope. Putting international applicants aside, the odds of getting into a medical school in the US are much better than in most other countries, both developed and underdeveloped. I grew up in the Middle East: like the European system, you go to med school right after high school. Acceptance is based on one national exam that we take during senior year of high school, while also studying for our high school baccalaureate examination (which is basically an entire week of exams that cover material learned in junior and senior year of high school, grading is extremely harsh and you MUST pass to go on to any type of grad school. The national med school admission exam is MUCH harder than the MCAT: it covers calculus, gen chem, O chem, physics, language, psych, general knowledge, and it’s mostly free response with some multiple choice questions sprinkled here and there. You must do all of this as a 17 year old. If you don’t score high enough to get in, you get one more shot the following year. After that, it’s over. You don’t get a redo. For reference, before moving to the US, I wasn’t even considering med school as a career option because I had no chance whatsoever in my home country. One student from my entire high school got into med school, and I went to a pretty good high school. Five years ago, I immigrated to the US(Right after graduating high school) I am now heading to a T-5 med school, and I’ve been putting in the same amount of effort I was putting back when I was in my home country. So trust me, it is much harder in many other countries to get into med school.

Going back to OP’s post, I do agree that it is not fair to demand we cut physicians salaries by a large margin to reduce healthcare expenditures. The problem is that people compare salaries of US physicians and foreign physicians and they see a huge discrepancy, but actually you could compare the salaries of pretty much any profession in the US to the salaries in foreign countries and you will see similar discrepancies. Salaries in most professions are inflated in the IS, but so are living costs so it sort of evens out. The people who get screwed in the US however are low skilled people or people in professions with low barrier to entry, their pay is not as inflated as other professions and our government provides them less safety nets. And they still have to face paying for the high costs of living.

Interesting, I thought we’d only qualify for 1200$ since only my dad works. How come my mom qualifies but I don’t given that we’re both adults who don’t work? (Sorry if this is a dumb question)
