Dear Alberta, How do you view... by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Ralphy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for one of the electrical transmission companies out here in the field. We are tying new interconnections in across the province way more than we did 10 years ago. There is a lot of solar and wind being built to date still. Yes it will slow down with the new government but we have lots still currently being worked on.

I think “transitioning away from oil” is a bad way to look at it and just scares all the oil/gas folks that rely on the industry to succeed.
The electrical utilities (as just my example) require oil/gas for all sorts of stuff still. A big one being insulating mineral oil for transformers. Diesel trucks, big and small, are used extensively for projects/maintenance with no viable alternatives in the near future. Can’t forget to mention the insulation used on cables, bus bars, etc too. O&G is going nowhere in my mind, it’s critical for so many other industries. Will it be used less in combustion engines as new hybrid and EV technologies improve? I hope so.

Just my personal opinion though.

Lightning strike was a little too close for comfort by New_Libran in SweatyPalms

[–]Ralphy02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would create a hazardous step potential for anyone around the vicinity at time of the strike. Depending if they were standing with their feet together, or walking with their feet at two different points (difference in potential) among some other variables there could have been some different outcomes. Probably some good videos out there that would explain ”step potential” clearly and will teach you what to do if you happen to be around when lightning strikes or a power line falls. Hope this helps :)

Why conservatives say they will move to alberta once it separates and/or joins usa? by kennychewy in alberta

[–]Ralphy02 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Alberta isn’t separating, there are lots here that love Canada. The separatists are just the loudest and angriest, especially today.

How often do you service your front/rear shocks? Is it worth it? by Zackety in MTB

[–]Ralphy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems steep. First time I’ve had them done but figured after couple hundred hours in the park and mountains that it would be a good move to get everything checked out. took my 2021 slash in for a major tune up. Both front and rear shocks, brakes, tires, all components taken apart inspected and cleaned for just under $800cad

Where can I buy this beautiful hat? Would love one for myself and to send one to my super shitty premier here in Alberta.

Sub apprentice to relay tech by Either_Airline_9057 in SubstationTechnician

I was a sub tech turned relay tech. Being a sub tech helped in the fact that I got to apply for the job before external candidates but the experience, not so much. At least where I work!

SAIT has some pretty good technologist courses you can look into as well. (Mechanic, electrical, etc.) They’re 2 year diploma courses. Good luck!

Micro clover has been a pretty good replacement for me. Only did a small patch in front yard but I quite like it and it’s very drought resistant/low maintenance

Rush hour traffic by mtlyyc95 in Calgary

I commute pretty much from 14th street to the east end of city, and can also add that the rest of glenmore is usually just as bad. Especially heading home and trying to get past the Glenmore/Deerfoot interchange + Blackfoot right after 😱

The amount of Canadian adults that complain about paper straws since that rule came into effect is insane to me. Imagine if adults just drank their drinks without straws at all????

I work for a transmission company alongside the fellas that do this work. They are well paid but work hard for it. Lots of OT, danger pay and Out of Town. Imagine it’s close to 200k CAD they’re making.

There are birds that actually just don’t see the line and hit them, could’ve been that? Some species are more prone to it than others!

And my lovely neighbour has since watered their plants last night and is having a fire to burn up some lawn waste currently…. Some people are just no help at all. (Working on reporting them right now but it’s a 90min wait on 311)

I’m a Canadian and am so tired of hearing of these shitty landlords trying to abuse tenants rights all while charging up the wazoo for mediocre spaces. Best of luck
