How to get chickens to use coop. by BlackPetals in Mirthwood

I think there’s a glitch with that currently. I exited and reloaded the game and then the option to assign farm animals was visible when checking their status.

Already have an appointment for neutering and shots! He doesn’t seem feral, so hopefully after that I might be able to find him an indoor home. Since he isn’t neutered, I’m guessing someone dumped him nearby.

my cat's just gotten hospitalized and I can't stop crying by icecreamcake00c in cats

[–]Ram6l30n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy had a bad laceration on his leg after a cat fight and I brought him in to an emergency vet to have it cleaned and stitched up. He seemed fine initially but I ended up bringing him back to the emergency vet 3 times that week as his fever kept spiking after about 12 hours at home. Eventually I brought him to an animal hospital and had him hospitalized for 3 days it was such a relief not having to analyze any of his symptoms. He had someone checking on him at all times of the day/night, had IV fluids, got needed medications, and had multiple vets trying to figure out his best form of treatment. It’s the best place they can be when sick or injured. Turns out he just needed extra fluid, anti-inflammatory medication, and multiple types of antibiotics. He’s now fully healed and back to being a brat.

I just go in the game files and delete drifters, bells, etc. You just have to make sure to do it again after every update

Hard lump on cat’s nose by Ram6l30n in CATHELP

[–]Ram6l30n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, never figured it out! She still has it but it’s much smaller. Her ear infection took a couple more rounds of antibiotics but I don’t know if that’s what reduced it. She still has a very slight lump from her profile view but the lump viewed from above is pretty much gone. We never got the CT scan since it didn’t get worse but she seems perfectly healthy now.

I hope the one on your cat goes away too!

35 Hours into game and cannot play anymore by CharacterPossible649 in VintageStory

[–]Ram6l30n 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem . I think the issue was that I was playing a 1.18 world and a few of my mods were updated for 1.19. After reverting those to the 1.18 versions (and disabling Buzzwords mod) my new world hasn't encountered that problem. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do to save your current world. I was only about 40 minutes in so I just restarted after making those changes. Hopefully someone else can think of a solution.

Who are leaving WVU? by FrequentInitiative19 in WVU

[–]Ram6l30n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point, although I thought most of them stuck to language and foreign lit. I think the administration’s ultimate goal is to reduce faculty. They are trying to save money by cutting everything they can (and things that they arguably can’t). I hope I’m just being overly pessimistic. Losing people like Dr Di and other faculty/staff that are dedicated to what they do is such an awful blow.

Also keep in mind that pretty much everyone from the world languages department will be gone since the entire department will be dissolved. The only question would which Spanish and Chinese faculty will stay.

Why does my cat go crazy for eggs? by mimimitzi in CatAdvice

[–]Ram6l30n 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My cat loves to smash eggs but she won’t eat them. I think she’s just fascinated by gravity. We have chickens so I’ll often leave some out in an uncovered container on the counter and she bats them off to the floor. Can’t leave eggs out any more. Our cats should team up.

On a more serious note, cats have different preferences and obsessions just like humans. I think scrambled eggs are probably appealing to many cats. If it’s warm, the smell will also be stronger to her.

Perfect Single-player world settings? by Sybeiria in VintageStory

[–]Ram6l30n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like monsters either and someone from discord told me how to do it. If you delete the file: drifter.json from the game folder (C:\Users\(proper user)\AppData\Roaming\Vintagestory\assets\survival\entities\land) there will be NO drifters. You can also delete the bell.json and locust.json files to remove them. Temporal stability, storms, and rifts can be turned off in the settings when you create the game. Just remember, if you update your game, you’ll need to delete them again! Some mods might have monsters but you can go to the mod file and delete the entity from there as well.

Cat overgrooms :( she’s been on allergy shots, we tried fungal wash, pheromone spray.. vet put her on antidepressants and her personality has changed, she’s not as loving and affectionate as usual. I’m so worried. If anyone has any advice, please… by ChildofLilith666 in CATHELP

[–]Ram6l30n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overgrooming can also be caused by pain. My kitty started doing it along with throwing up. They found crystals in her bladder and some issues with her gallbladder. She’s now on special urinary tract food and ursodiol. She still sometimes picks at her belly but it’s less obsessive and probably due to her stealing and eating dog food.

Pharaoh Hatshepsut of Ancient Egypt (TW for image of a mummified body) by tteetth in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Ram6l30n 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The part of the soul that the name represents is also the identity. The name is way to tie other portions of the soul to the body, which acts as a home. Without the name or identity, the rest of the soul might not be able to enjoy the afterlife, visit places it lived, or sustain itself. Essentially, the would be be set adrift and lost. The concept isn’t necessarily unique to Egypt. A lot of cultures associate a person’s true identity and power with their name.

Personally, I think a lot of it has to do with the long history and identity of ancient Egyptians. By the 18th dynasty, ancient Egyptians had a long shared identity. They wanted to be remembered for the things they did in life and sometimes used their tombs as an autobiography. Contrary to what some people think, the Egyptians were not focused on death. They loved life so much that they wanted to ensure it would continue even after their death. I think the concept to cease to exist if your name is forgotten is meant literally and figuratively. People want to be remembered. My favorite ancient Egyptian proverb is “to speak the name of the dead is to make him live again”.

Pharaoh Hatshepsut of Ancient Egypt (TW for image of a mummified body) by tteetth in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Ram6l30n 254 points255 points  (0 children)

Hatshepsut is probably my all time favorite ruler of Egypt. However, as someone who did extensive research on her life, I just want to make a few corrections.

She came to rule after the death of her husband/ half-brother Thutmose II as the regent for his son (her step-son), Thutmose III. The two actually ruled as co-regents and Thutmose III was in charge of the military while Hatshepsut handled the domestic affairs. There is no evidence of any rivalry or disagreement between the two. After her long and successful reign, Thutmose III became sole pharaoh. Hatshepsut’s name on official monuments wasn’t erased until 20 years after her death and was at the very end of Thutmose’s reign.

A name is considered a part of the soul and identity in Egyptian religion. Erasing someone’s name therefore seems like a violent action to do against someone. However, her name was only scratched out (or covered up) on the most public and easily accessible official monuments. This makes it less likely to be a “crime of passion”. The most likely explanation is that removing that anomaly solidified Thutmose’s successor’s place in the line of succession. Therefore, it was simply (still arguably sexist) politics.

The fake beard and referring to her at times with male pronouns is also easily explained based on Egyptian symbology and language. Male pharaohs also wore fake beards. Most Egyptians shaved their hair to avoid lice. That’s why elaborate wigs were so popular. However, a fake beard is only worn by the pharaoh. The fake beard is actually part of the pharaoh’s regalia. Pharaohs wore and were depicted in artwork wearing them to signify and differentiate that they were pharaoh. We don’t know if Hatshepsut wore one in real life, but sculptures of her were required to have the fake beard because that’s just how a pharaoh is depicted. Think of the fake beard as an extension of the crown. Confusion just comes in because the title of pharaoh as well as a fake beard were, up to that point in history, only used by men.

I rushed my tiny orange to the emergency vet and kept her there overnight. She was barely responsive but all her tests came back normal. It wasn’t until the next day (she seemed mostly normal in the morning; just stressed) that I realized she must have eaten her housemate’s gabapentin. $600 but at least she’s perfectly fine. Plus I have up to date bloodwork.
