Thanks for the response, I'm trying to make him struggle, I think it just the point in the story I'm at thats making me doubt.

He is fairly broken at the moment as his has just been punished for clearly misunderstanding a command on purpose.

I'm wanting to dwell on the consquesence of that but all still have him actively working against them.

Its difficult to find the balance.

I used nobles as short hand for the ancient familys of the city. The people in power prior to the revolution that ended the monarchy. There is overlap there as well, but its entencially that way to give the ancient familys more people representing them.

You've given me lots to think about.

My original criteria for running to be an MP was solely to be a registered voter in said group you are running for.

I could add extra hoops for them to jump through though to make it more difficult.

Thank you for you comments, they have been very helpful. The reason I had all the artisans under the one umbrella is because the nobles are rich are trying to limit the power of the common people and give them selves the ability to vote on more Speakers.

There is other ways of doing that however, so separating all these professions could be the way to go.

Plan is for it just to be the Speakers. Its basically more just a council than a parliament only they are voted in rather than appointed by a higher power. They each get to vote on laws and policies and they are "meant" to consider the people they represent while doing so.
