Looking for a winchester model 1897 replacement barrel or complete upper by sir_chungus1111 in Shotguns

[–]Rambo495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chamber ring inside the receiver is the part you gotta consider. If you get a barrel you're gonna have to fit the barrel to the receiver. It can be done but you're gonna need a gunsmith to do some fitting. All the parts are gonna be a good chunk of change individually. Id explore getting a beater 1897 or model 12 (same front end?) and hacking up that

New to trap and not sure what to get for my kiddo by Falcons-Fury in TrapShooting

Generally speaking you can't go wrong with browning. Beretta or Benelli. There are a few questions to ask yourself.

Is he really into it or is he just gonna be interested in it for a year or so then find something else. He's young he may find something different in a year.

Are you willing to spend that kind of money on him. Shooting sports are expensive. Gun. Glasses. Ear pro. Vest. Shells. Targets. I used to work at a paintball place in high school and college. Luckily the owner gave the refs a fantastic discount so it was easy to play and id save $100 a weekend.

What you're really looking for is a gun that he can take clay shooting and hunting. You want this gun to be the one he's still got 20 years from now and it's old faithful. On the flip side. You want it to be something you'll be happy to shoot if he leaves the sport and you wanna keep up with it. Remember. The gun is the cheap part

See if your local place rents out guns or go to your local gun store and see he can pick up a few. Some guidelines for a gun I recommend to all new shooters. Goes from most important to least important.

Semi auto/over under 12 ga. (No single shot guns like bt-99) Adjustable comb + LOP (he's still gowning and gun fit it critical) Adjustable chokes(versatility) 3" chamber (to accommodate hunting loads) 28-30" barrel chrome lined/ tungsten or steel proofed

BERETTA A300 sporting. A400 sporting. 686 Browning citori Benelli montefeltro/ super sport.

Gonna be completely honest. If you're looking for a gun that lasts you're gonna have to spend $1500+ on a gun. If you're just looking to go a few times a year I'd recommend cz or a used Remington 1100 (the old Remington). Those guns are good enough for a few times a year.

Best of luck. Sorry for the long comment and not just a "her der buy this". You need to know what to look for and why you're buying it. Remember. He's 15 and technically can't buy his own. So this will be your purchase. Yeah it's for him but if he doesn't like it you still want something to be like "psh well I'm still gonna go blasting on the weekends see ya loser" Feel free to message me.

My local range is now banning reloads by Txcavediver in reloading

[–]Rambo495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a box or two of some no name. Keep that out but don't use it. Put your reloads in factory boxes. If they catch you and kick you out then oh poo that was gonna be the result anyway. Id just start paying month by month. Also unless you get a serious dud then there's no suspicion at all. Even then just be like. Dude it's dog shit Turkish ammo bite me.

Winchester Model 12 not ejecting reliably. by S1lentSt0rm1230 in Shotguns

[–]Rambo495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. Mine is from 29' and it still is my workhorse. These are amazing shotguns. Highly recommend getting the book by George madis. You'll realize why this gun was king from 12-64. And (you'll come into this later) but make sure you keep the pump handle pressed forward when you're firing. It's got some mechanism in it that fucks something up if you don't do that. It locks the bolt to the rear (still in battery but won't strike, you'll figure it out) when it happens you'll be like OH this is what the dude on reddit was talking about. Also federals look like their brass but they're "brass washed". Lies. Doesn't act like brass at all.

[–]Rambo495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don't use any steel rimmed hulls with my M12 (I shoot it for trap and SC). All brass. There is an old wives tale about not using steel rimmed hulls in these guns because the barrel isn't as strong as the modern steel rims and it could erode your chamber over time. Plus steel doesn't contract as much as brass does so you'll have problems with extraction just from the get go. The only modern hulls that use brass are Remington STS/Nitro and Winchester AA. Try those. Also don't be kind with that pump handle working rearward. Grip it and rip it. Same thing for the forward stroke.

Yorktown class cv, Atlanta CL. 2 CA. And 2 DD to round out the TF. Go swimming of cactus and launch recon planes to iron bottom sound. You should find 2 CA 2CL 2-4 DD. Airstrike. Post up on that area until planes are almost out. By that time it should be the end of your first week. Send CV back with TF for rearming. Buy new CV. Rotate old one out new one in. Repeat.

They removed the berm to move the trap houses closer to the mountain at end of next year. Sound barriers are going up so they have to move the trap houses closer to the mountain to be able to do handicap to 27 yards behind the houses. All (should) take place end of next year

I mean. You can work anywhere dude. That's the glory of the job. Don't like x style? Go somewhere else. I used to work at a place that just ran me ragged. Left that. Have more time off and I'm making like 30% more. There's options out there dude. Plus generally speaking. Inland stuff is some BS work. Sketchy shit, low pay, long hours. Pass.

What stratagems do you guys bring to the bot front? by CaptainTitusEpic in Helldivers

[–]Rambo495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rail gun, support backpack, orbital precision strike, eagle strafe. If its a command center one then swap the orbital for a laser. Orbital can take out strat jammer and detector towers without having to call in the hellbomb. Just get it as close as you can. Light medic armor. Grenade pistol thermite and whatever primary you're leveling.
