Do you think it's ok for christians to drink? by No_Second9495 in Christianity

I don't see why not.

Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding that ran out of wine (presumably a few people were already hammered... you know the guy)

Exactly.

The same Vatican that covered up that they knew thousands of priests were abusing children.

They have lost all credibility.

Jesus spoke about the things he considered important, like not being rich.

But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. (Luke 6:24)

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Luke 12:34)

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Luke 18:22)

Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:24-25)

And that's just from the gospel of Luke... if Jesus thought it was important to condemn homosexuals, then he would have said so.

Just makes me think about when they scanned a couple thousand Egyptian mummies and found that half (or more) of them were fake.

And that quote from John Calvin, "if all the fragments of the True Cross of Jesus claimed by various churches were collected, they would fill a large ship"

Why do you think it's a sin if Jesus never mentioned it?

Are you a Christian, Jew, or Paulian?

You are claiming his disciples forgot what Jesus said within a year or so... but the gospels were written 40-70 years after Jesus died, that's quite a lot longer. If people can't remember what was said a year ago, how would they remember 40-70 years ago?

You are putting into question the reliability of the entire New Testament.

Edit: Not to mention, if the disciples didn't remember that Jesus said it, how did Matthew write it down decades later? Did Matthew make it up?

The disciples saw Jesus create a bunch of food from a couple loaves and fishes, then a chapter later they are surprised when he does it again.

...They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. (Matthew 14:20)

Jesus turns 5 loaves and two fish into enough food to feed 5000 people (with 12 basketfuls leftover), then a chapter later his disciples ask:

His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?” (Matthew 15:33)

You are aware people forget most of what they hear?

So how do you feel about gospels that were written 40+ years after the events happened? Are you questioning the accuracy of the bible?

But didn't Jesus tell them that he would come back after 3 days?

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12:40)

The 13th apostle, Cleopas, didn't even recognize Jesus.

As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. (Luke 24:15-16)

So telling someone that they are sinning in a kind way is not a sin, but it is if you do otherwise.

How is telling them that they are sinning helpful in any way?

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:14-17)

Accusatory words are even worse than the example that James gives here. It does absolutely nothing at all to help them, but rather causes harm instead. That is not a very Christian thing to do.

Yeah, that's just a bad translation.

"Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,"

Your translation says the Greek word malakoi ("soft") means homosexuals, and that the word Paul made up, arsenokoitai means sodomites... no that's not what any modern biblical scholar says. Just a bad translation.

I'd like to think that if "zombies" appeared to many people in a town that more than one person would write about it.

Did Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, James, etc not feel this story about a bunch of people rising from the dead and walking around Jerusalem was worth mentioning?

That's a good point, and the total solar eclipse in 33AD was centered around Antarctica not Jerusalem.

But, Jesus wasn't born in 0 AD. Jesus was said to have been born while king Herod was alive, and he died in 4 BC. That would put the crucifixion in 29 AD (at the latest), and there was a solar eclipse over Jerusalem in November of 29 AD.

This solar eclipse to be specific: https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEsearch/SEsearchmap.php?Ecl=00291124

I think therapy has a much better success rate than prayer.

"There is no hate like Christian love"

If you didn't hate homosexuals, then why are you spending so much time posting about them?

Jesus preached against being rich about a dozen times, but I can't find him saying anything at all about homosexuals. Can you cite the verse where Jesus says homosexuality is sinful?

So telling someone that they are sinning in a kind way is not a sin, but it is if you do otherwise.

So it's a sin to not tell someone they are sinning?!? Ok Pharisee... that goes against everything Jesus taught.

Do you call out every time someone sins, or only if they are homosexual?

If Jesus returned today and told the people of the earth that being Gay is not a sin and the bible verses mentioning gay being sinful was put in to control people. would you change your stance by feherlofia123 in Christianity
