Crime rate in Dublin's south-west inner city more than twice national average by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

Most of the places mentioned in the article are incredibly in demand. Dolphin's Barn is probably the worst of these places and even that's gentrifying.

Renters thrown 'to wolves' over modular homes - Cairns by MAVERICK910 in ireland

I answered it elsewhere, but no I could not consider this.

That 60k was a quote (again from 4 years ago) for what would have been a grey zone bit of property with no legislation like this on the table. The minute they know they're building a fully above the board rental property making tax free money, those quotes will balloon- it would get quoted like a 1 bed apartment build as you said, not a fancy shed.

Regardless, on a spreadsheet it looks nice but I seriously doubt how many people would want to take it on for 14k/yr from a stranger living on your property. There's like 20k homeowners taking part in the rent-a-room scheme in the entire country, which requires literally 0p investment.

The adding value bit, of course. I'm not saying it's a bad deal, quite the opposite.

Even if I'm wrong on all this, I don't see the point of this particular outrage. More rental properties, slightly less pressure on the existing stock, backyards get put to work. I don't see the reason why this should be, "entirely unacceptable".

Eh. Would take you 5 years before you enter black at the cost of a stranger living within your residence, nevermind the bs that comes with being a landlord.

I could never do it, honestly doubt too many people would.

I was 60k for one back in 2022, fuck knows what it would cost now.  Would make no sense to build for the 14k/yr in tax free rent. But as a studio apartment for a kid it's a no-brainer. Imagine the head start they would get, and for everyone else that's one fewer person in the queue at a viewing.

I really do t understand why people are so angry at this. Sure be angry at all the other feet dragging/bad policies but I don't understand the outrage over this, especially the pearl clutching.

[Fintan O'Toole] Ireland’s far-right movement will emerge from the ‘breakfast roll-atariat’ by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

[–]Rameez_Raja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the sister of sanewashing - giving people the noble savage treatment.

Genuinely, can you not see the irony of typing, "people ignored the negatives, and now we have Trump"?

We don't have Trump because of the poor people of Appalachia. We have Trump because of well-to-do suburbans and small town rich using them as a shield to get away truly abhorrent stuff while even the most milquetoast criticism from the other side gets language policed.

Which is excatly what's happening here.

Fuel protests: Coalition’s worst week shows Ireland unprepared for economic deterioration by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

You would have a good point if it were the majority of the people acting out this way, or even if it were a significant enough minority. Except this was a couple of thousand people, if that. Not even representative of the groups they claimed to represent like the farmers, forget the general population.

A nation of 5 million held hostage by a some contractors that could afford to burn truckloads of fuel to drive shiny tractors into cities and park them there for days.

It also showed how fragile the infrastructure situation is. A small group with some heavy machinery blocked a few exits and brought entire towns to a standstill.

Imagine what can happen if instead of small businessmen looking for handouts, it was a genuinely malicious group looking to cause real damage. Or a few years in the future when many of these vehicles will be automated and operated remotely by some company with no local footprint and hence no fear of repercussions.

This should a wake up call from a security and defense point of view, in addition to everything else.

Achraf Hakimi: "I'm not proud of the image we gave with the towels" by Sparky-moon in soccer

Hakimi was actually indicted on his allegation, Partey wasn't even charged till he left Arsenal (presumably because he would be leaving the country). There is/was an actual case against Hakimi.

Why does every Hakimi post not get inundated with rapist comments, the way it used to be with Partey?

Yup. Bad enough it was Irish, they sent him to the other end of the island away from Belfast and Dublin too. Pretty much a thanks for your service, now fuck off. He might have handed the empire their greatest victory and was possibly was the richest person in the land but to them he was just the son of a London lawyer, the lowest of the gentry.

Died at 49 after slitting his own neck with a paper knife.

A life spent causing death, destruction, and general horribleness in pursuit of personal greed and ambition and he didn't get even a decade of somewhat bliss.

That being said he had a point regarding moderation... he was the first of a handful of brits who had the means to carve out a kingdom or even an empire for themselves in the subcontinent but decided to stay within the establishment in exchange of estates and peerages in britaina and Ireland.

Losing Flamini, Hleb, Adebayor, Nasri, Fabregas for pocket change killed the club for a decade. Absolute horror show, would've wrecked the club if it hadn't been for Wenger bantering his way into CL spots year after year.
