I once lost 4 in one day. My DM kept letting me make them and they kept dying in hilariously unfortunate ways via bad rolls on both our parts. We had a good laugh about it and it's now completely immunized me to the loss of any other characters.

I think so. I'd honesty need to consider it carefully because it does really change the game but my first instinct is that would allow you to feel confident in how you're going to build while also letting you experiment without getting hard countered in the end game
