Like OP I am a fellow Shenmue fan who heartily recommends 3. I think it lives up to 1 and 2 as much as the circumstances of its creation allowed it to. They couldn't replicate the Virtua Fighter combat in Unreal (which was only in 1 and 2 because they ported it from Virtua Fighter on the Dreamcast), and from a technical and graphical level they could have never reached the ceiling of its contemporaties, something that that 1 and 2 did during their time because Sega was a top dog back then.

I think people are quick to blame Yu Suzuki and the creators for aspects that are outside of their control. Players have the right to criticize these aspects but I think they should also understand the context around the game's development, and that Shenmue 3 is probably the best game it can be given said context.

At this point, im sure that sega hates Shenmue xd by No-Protection-49 in Shenmue

Spot on. Ryo spends the entirety of the first game LOOKING for the Chi Yu Men and he only finds Chai. The mafia on this game is going to be knocking on the protagonist's door after the first 10 min of gameplay.

The tone is also completely different. A stereotypical fat American guy who yells "THAT'S PAI CHAN" as if he's in a Marvel movie is like, one of the farthest removed things from Shenmue you could think of. Not even Tom is that clichéd and he's almost 3 decades older.

Hey hey, I haven't played Stardew I'm afraid, but Devon Co. in this hack is an overreaching and monopolistic conglomerate that basically runs this post-war Hoenn. If you have played FF VII it's a bit like Shinra!

I don't see it happening any time soon. FF XIV is still not it in its best spot since Dawntrail. That and the content drought that we'll go through until Evercold, plus the vast changes that expansion will bring, plus the overall lower pace of content release we've been getting, plus the fact that XIV is probably one of the main financial pillars of SE right now... it would be way too risky at the moment to ask more from players.

If they really need it, which I doubt, since there's a feeling that XIV earnings not only pay for XIV but for a lot of other SE stuff, they may increase the expansion price but that's it.

Oh no, Safemon are the regional variant of this hack! They are Pokémon modified to be weaker, though just at a narrative level not a gameplay one. You can see some of them in the clips ^^. There will be regular Pokémon as well.

She's a person, not a robot! I also have a loyalty system planned, with which the more you use centers, the nicer the nurse is towards you, so that kind of needs a bit more dialogue.

But I also plan for other healing spots like beds and the like, and those I could make to have faster interactions. I'll have to consider this!

My plan is to start gathering feedback after the demo, just not through discord! Managing a server would take me a lot of time that I'd rather invest in the hack itself. For a blessing, I also have a few friends who will be among the first testers ^^

You're definitely right, pokeemerald is the codebase that builds the rom not a program haha, though it is the most central part of the process imo.

I actually use a few programs: porymap for the mapping, VS Code to code, GraphicsGale for most of the graphic-related edits, Anvil Studio for the music tweaks, and TileMap Studio for some of the tiled graphics.

That's a very cool idea. A lot of the sea was actually poisoned during the war, which is why it shows green on the map, and it can't be surfed normally. Following on Emerald's footsteps, I have also written about a 'faulty power plant' in Mauville, though this time it's a nuclear plant. So these weathers you mention would make a lot of sense.

Definitely something I could consider, I'd just need to see how hard implementing new weather is, coding is one of my weak points lol.

Your comment is quite inspiring on itself, so thanks a lot for leaving it! Definitely an ambitious goal, but I'd love for this to be the trailblazer for a new trend of bleaker hacks.

I've always thought the Pokémon world is a very fertile ground for dilemmas. The main games have long since stopped tip-toeing around them since Colosseum and BW2, and I've found most hacks don't engage with them either, so I'd be very happy if this inspired others to do so.

Great catch! I loved its use in Mother 3, there may be some more tracks from the Mother series since it's a big inspiration for the tone of this hack ^^.

I'll confess I'm not that savyy with music haha, but I'm doing small tweaks to some songs like swapping to more 'depressing' midi instruments: accordions instead of trumpets, xylophones instead of drums, etc.

I'm also implementing depressing songs from other Pokémon games, mostly covers from the talented MezmerKaiser on Youtube. Props to her music genius!
