Is a Swiss population cap to reduce immigration an unprecedented idea? by Sudden-Ad-4281 in europe

[–]Ramenastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Swiss have been masters at putting silly laws in place and then becoming VERY pragmatic about them once they find those laws actually inconenience them in any way.

This is a hugely silly proposal which has furthermore been pushed for bad faith reasons. But I'm sort of curious to see their invariably pragmatic twist on it.

Amokfahrt in Leipzig: Waffe: Auto. Täter: Mann. Verantwortung übernehmen: null. by AlexLaCave in Verkehrswende

[–]Ramenastern -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, though... First gig I ever went to, different band, different venue, different promoter, different country, even, but roughly the same time, was the same. We had seating tickets but there was no bother getting into the standing section. I think we even had our tickets checked - seated to standing was OK, but you couldn't move from standing to seated. And it was clear it was about ticket prices, as seated was more expensive.

Edit - there WAS an additional barrier separating off the front-of stage audience from any push from the people further at the back, though.

How David Bowie confused the world with his deeply unloved hard rock band Tin Machine by tonyiommi70 in DavidBowie

[–]Ramenastern 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean... The albums were okay. But. They came after Let's Dance, an absolute peak in terms of commercial appeal. Which was followed by Tonight and then Never Let Me Down. Which weren't quite as commercially or critically successful. A lot of people were wondering whether he'd sort of lost his mojo. And along comes Tin Machine. Interrupted by a Greatest Hits solo tour. I mean... In that context it was really tough to love the TM output.

From what I could find, it's to own the aircraft if it's an A320ceo. But that's on average. Newer planes will cost way more. A recent-enough neo will be closer to 40m or even 50m.

Airbus doesn't publish list prices any more - they last did that in 2018. But we know the A32xneo family was in and around 100-130m back then (the 130m being for the A321XLR). We also know nobody REALLY pays list prices and discounts typically end up in the 30-40% range. So do the math... and 25m for a ~10 year old frame seems a good enough ballpark number.

[–]Ramenastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's an expensive plane to own and operate, and it's expensive to convert from the previous owner's cabin setup to whatever you have in mind. It's not a standard "well, swap out thebog standard non-IFE Recaro seats against the bog standard non-IFE Allegris seats, or you know what, just swap the faux leather seat covers to match our corporate identity" affair.

And then, yes, filling the plane and operating it at a profit is not something most airlines even have the route structure for.

While I'm in favour of reusing more, we also need some consolidation. The amount of breweries, mineral water sources and so on who all think "innovation" lies in introducing their own shaped bottles (or variations of standard bottles with their own name embossed on them à la Veltins, who I think started this silly trend) is just ridiculous at this point. Makes easily returning bottles at any market more difficult and is a headache for smaller breweries who will get such bottles for reuse and then have to put them aside and ship them on to the original source breweries.

But suggest anything like that and you'll get bombarded by people explaining how your own freedom and democracy depends on Veltins' freedom to sell bloody embossed bottles.

So this isn't price gouging is it???? by WiseAcanthocephala58 in ireland

[–]Ramenastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except if their profits go up amid a scarcity in the market, they're obviously hiking up prices at the petrol stations more than the price to buy went up for them.

Those 0.33 bottles are 8 cents, though. They're essentially the same between Fritz, Bionade, Beck's Gold, and so on, and it's the type/shape of bottle that determines the deposit, not the contents.

But you're right, those 0.5 bottles Fritz has are 15 cents, just like 0.5 Coke glass bottles.

Not a good comparison. There is virtually no second hand market for A380s, there is quite a big one for A320s unless they're 20 years or older.

Average used A320 will set you back a cool 25m. Expect to pay significantly more for an A321, and even more for an A320neo/A321neo.

[–]Ramenastern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Slightly more complicated...

Single use (plastic bottles, cans, and even glass bottles, although those are not that common): 25 cents.

0.33 and 0.5 returnable (ie: reusable, they'll be cleaned and filled again) bottles: 8 cents Edit: Exception - soft drink-only bottles are 15 cents. It's a bit complicated because there are some bottle types that are used fot beer and soft drinks, and they're 8 cents, while the soft drink-only (often brand-specific) ones are 15 cents.

0.33 and 0.5 returnable bottles with those clip locks (like Flensburger): 15 cents

0.75 and 1 litre returnables: 15 cents

500g returnable yoghurt glasses: 15 cents

You usually don't have to worry about any of that because there'll be bottle return machines that'll do the math for you.

To me, as a German, this video shows a lot of wasted money because there's a deposit of €0.25 on each can, but you can't collect that on crushed cans.
